• I am using Modern Store with WooCommerce and I want to adjust what appears in my thumbnail pictures of the products in my shop. When I upload an image I crop it and apply the changes to the thumbnail picture, but in my shop it shows whatever the default thumbnail is. How do I fix this? I have tried a couple plugins and they have not worked as well.

    Thanks for using Modern Store!

Are you using the cropping tool that is included in the Media Library? This one: https://screenshot.competethemes.com/E0ur9zGG

If so, the thumbnail should update automatically. Since that isn’t the case, it could be that an older version of the image is still being served from the cache. If you have a caching plugin installed or a caching feature provided by your host, please try emptying the cache and then refreshing the page to see if the correct thumbnail is used.

Yes, I have used the cropping tool in the media library and it shows the correct thumbnail in there and I have deleted the cache, but the default is what still appears up on the website. Appreciate the help! I’m an artist and being able to control what shows in the thumbnails for my artwork is super important.

Okay thank you for trying that. I think there is a chance that we are still seeing older copies of the images served by Jetpack’s Site Accelerator, so it might be worth a shot to temporarily disable that and check if it helps.

For example, this is the version of an image I see loaded on the site:
    https://i1.wp.com/ebruckstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Civilized-Print-Web.jpg?resize=600%2C567&ssl=1

And this is the regular version that would be loaded without Site Accelerator:
    https://i1.wp.com/ebruckstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Civilized-Print-Web.jpg

Otherwise, I think the simplest fix might be to circumvent cropping on the site entirely. You could crop the images on your computer and then upload them so that the “uncropped” version is never even on the site.

Okay so the Jetpack Site Accelerator is not activated on my site so I don’t think that is the problem. I’m not sure I understand what you mean about circumventing the cropping. I need the entire image uploaded to be viewed on its product page so customers can see the whole thing, but I want to control what is visible in the smaller thumbnail on my shop page so that the focal point of the bigger artwork is present in the smaller thumbnail. Does that make sense? Hope so!

Where are you setting the cropped image as the thumbnail?

When editing a product, you can set a Product Image (screenshot) which is then used on both the main shop page and the product image. This needs to be set to the cropped image in order for it to show up on the shop page.
