Admin approval for new user registration

Well you could set your “Membership–Users must be registered and logged in to comment” in Administration > Options > General and then set “Before a comment appears–Comment author must have a previously approved comment” in Administration > Options > Discussion

I have those options set. However, there are other plugins I’m using that require a user to be registered but don’t have an option for admin approval. Also, in terms of not having to deal with moderating comment spam etc., it would be much easier to have a registration setting that the admin must approve the new user before they can interact with the site.

I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve looked for other ways to do this but can find nothing that works with wordpress 2.1.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

is there any way to approve users before they can login?

I use roll manager. Set new users to 0 which essencially they make an account but can not do anything else outside of changing their own profile. Then if I approve them I set their role to a higher number.

it would be the best if a black list or something like that would be integrated into a next version of wordpress to prevent sending registration emails to spambots anyhow (before they are becoming members/subscribers).

actually you can find something really similiar in your wordpress-admin already at options -> discussion -> comment moderation. this option should be expanded to the registration process.

I just tried out Bouncer and it works great. Combined with disclose-secret it makes for a really good members-only solution.

Works for latest release, WordPress 2.3.3 and comes with full support and free installation if required

Still can’t understand why such a feature has not been included in native WP to date.
