    Hello, I’m Relatively new to wordpress and found malware in our site, so i removed it . The malware in question was 2 .gif files with php script inside, and a file which listed all files and folders, however on completion of removing these files, i have lost my admin bar. I have searched all day for ways of fixing it, and it seems to be a common problem, but none of the common fixes are helping me ??

    So far here’s what i have tried;
    -Deactivate and reactivate un user-profile
    -Replaced WP_admin and WP_Includes with files from a fresh download
    -Checked both header and footer to make sure the functions are listed just before the end, and they’re both there.
    -Removed all caching plugins i could find we were using
    -Deactivated every plugin, but to no avail
    -Completely recreated a new .htaccess
    -The only thing that did seem to work, was reverting to an old theme, that seemed to fix it, which to any sensible person would mean the theme is the issue, but i’m not great with themes, other than header, footer and functions, where is it likely to be broken? I should include, that before the opening php bracket for functions.php, there was an “Include logos.gif” , which i obviously got rid of, because it’s the dodgiest thing i’ve seen in a long time. Thanks if anyone can take any time and possibly point me in the right direction ??

  • This may be a stupid thing to say, but. Have you a backup of the site prior to it getting bugged?

    If you have, I would simply reinstate from the backup and ensure my anti malware/virus is up to date.

    Regards.
    Gary.

    Backups would be a last resort to be honest, as i’d have to jump through a lot of hoops to get in contact with the person that has them, but yes gaz, i do believe we have some, i will start looking into it, but it would be great if anyone else has any other ideas. Thanks though Gary ?? -Ryan

    Still got this issue, so it doesn’t seem to be an error with the hosts, so i’m not too sure what to do :/. i’m still getting “501 errors” but my website is still up, so surely it can only be the admin bar that is broken, yet sucuri is saying the entire site is down.

    Okay, turns out the problem was an undefined call to “WP_FOOTS” in the footer, which threw the whole site into disarray. after doing some digging, it seems to be the part of the script that did the spam links, but as i’d already removed the other parts, it just sat dormant. So if anyone has this problem, check your footer again ??
