How do I move the admin toolbar?

When I log into most wordpress sites the dashboard toolbar is on the left side. However when I log into a few sites the toolbar is on the top of the page.

Does it have anything to do with a full width site? I want to know what changes this or how I can change it so they are all the same.

    thanks!

  • Hi,

Can you please provide a screenshot?

    Thanks

I have the new site I am building at https://www.suttonandsutton.com/test

The current crappy site has the bar on the side, but the new site I added has it on the top for some reason, I think because it is full width.

Also, the wordpress refuses to update. I don’t know if it doesn’t like two installs of wordpress on the same server but I wouldn’t think that would cause any problems. I just went into our hosting panel and added another wordpress install at the /test/ location.

    Thanks for any help

Ummm why does someone keep deleting my posts without giving me any update or reply?

Am I asking for help in the wrong place? It seems counterproductive to setup a help blog and then delete posts when people ask for help.

Did I violate some rule or something? I don’t understand this. I have never posted in a support forum and then had moderators just delete my posts with no reason… certainly not professional

    1. WRT the WP in a subdirectory of another WP site, that can lead to some issues with cascading .htaccess stuff. My preference is to set up sites in parallel (/var/www/site1, /var/www/sit2) rather than stacked (/var/www/site1/, /var/www/site1/site2).

    2. Focusing on the menu issue, the dashboard menu is separate from the front-end menus. Looking at https://www.suttonandsutton.com/test/, what do you want to do with that menu at the top? Currently, it’s behind your social icons and not very visible. (The font is also a bit small.)

    3. It appears you’re using a premium theme, https://mariusn.com/themes/reales-wp/, Have you contacted the developer for assistance? (I can’t seem to find a support link there.)

    4. With respect to deleted posts, it appears you were doing some “bumping” and those were deleted. Bumps draw the attention of moderators, but they might not be in a position to help with a particular issue. The forums are staffed by volunteers who may get distracted after an initial response or they may have missed checking the “notify me of follow-up posts” (which IMHO should be checked by default). Anyhow, awaiting your response. (I did check the box.)

don’t panic! there are literally thousands of requests for help on these forums and they are “staffed” by volunteers, both hardcore coders and wordpress core team members as well as seasoned end users across the world. sadly in life you get what you pay for and as these forums are free tech support demanding help isn’t going to win you any friends.

i, and i’m sure my fellow support nerds, appreciate how desperate it can feel when something goes wrong and you can’t fix it or get the help you need quickly but as mentioned above, we’re all volunteering our time and knowledge for the benefit of others.

now, to business (and after all this you’re probably not going to like my suggestion!). if i had to guess i would say it was the theme rendering things oddly and since the theme is a paid for theme from themeforest, you need to contact the developer of the theme for support.

2a. Looking at https://www.suttonandsutton.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/TopBar.png, check “screen options” at the top, I thought there might be a screen option setting involved, but I can’t reproduce that on my test site. I suspect you have a number of plugins that are adding stuff to the top bar.

Disable all plugins and see if it gets better. If so, turn them back on one at a time until things break again.

thank you very much for your help everyone. I agree it is the result of the custom template I am using. Only sites with custom templates are affected so this has to be it. I guess with full width sites they put the admin bar on the top. There is no way to change it. Only move it to the bottom which isn’t much help.

Someone didn’t think a horizontal scroll was a good idea in the dashboard for whatever reason.

    Thanks again
