• Im not sure if there is any problems just yet, i opened the install.php file and have been looking through it, there seems to be a mixture of code and instructions, questions and answers…3 steps all on one page, at the bottom it says the install is complete…? it’s all a bit confusing =S
    “User setup successful!
    Now you can log in with the login “admin” and password “”.
    Note that password carefully! It is a random password that was generated just for you. If you lose it, you will have to delete the tables from the database yourself, and re-install WordPress.
    Were you expecting more steps? Sorry to disappoint. All done!”
    well what i want to know is, is that the way the install file is supposed to look , if not somethings wrong right lol? and the “guessing linkage to where wp is installed input box” has this…..<?php echo $guessurl; ?>
    If i am supposed to substitute my information, what info would i put in and how is it supposed to look?
    Thanks in advance fro any help ??
    Im just itching to use this ??

    Ok, ive searched the forums and found a post i’d missed
    Seems i have a problem, the install.php is opening the so called “raw file”.
    The solution for the other user was s/he opened the file using www instead of ftp, now ive tried that and it says the page doesnt exist.
    * What i have done so far*
    1. Downloaded wordpress
    2. Extracted the files
    3. Input this info into the wp-config-sample.php – i made the db on my control panel, i know my host allows php as i upgraded it yesterday to allow. the database name and username are both blog, i put the relevent pass in too.
    ***********************************************************************************
    <?php
    /** WordPress’s config file **/
    /** https://www.ads-software.com/ **/
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘blog’); // The name of the database
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘blog’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘my db pass’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value
    *****************************************************************************
    4. Changed the file name to wp-config.php
    5. Uploaded the files to a folder in my ftp called blog.
    6. Launched the install.php file and there i go, a “raw file”.
    If i have input the wrong info in wp-config, would you be able to see from what i have said, what the problem is?
    Maybe if put the info in the wrong place?
    ps. i am opening the install file in ftp on IE 6.
    oh dear

    Noooo….. leave that file all alone ??
    The only one you need to alter id ‘wp-config.php’

    wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. Welcome to WordPress. Wea€?re now going to go through a few steps to get you up and running with the latest in personal publishing platforms. Before we get started, remember that we require a PHP version of at least 4.1.0, you have . Look good? You also need to set up the database connection information in wp-config.php. Have you looked at the readme? If youa€?re all ready, let’s go!
    Step 1
    Okay first wea€?re going to set up the links database. This will allow you to host your own blogroll, complete with Weblogs.com updates.
    Installing WP-Links.
    Checking for tables…
    ” . $sql . “
    ” . mysql_error()); if ($result != false) { echo “
    Table ‘$tablelinkcategories’ created OK
    \n”; $got_cats = true; } } else { echo “
    Found table ‘$tablelinkcategories’, don’t need to create it…
    \n”; $got_cats = true; } if (!$got_links) { echo “
    Can’t find ‘$tablelinks’, gonna create it…
    \n”; $sql = “CREATE TABLE $tablelinks ( ” . ” link_id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, ” . ” link_url varchar(255) NOT NULL default ”, ” . ” link_name varchar(255) NOT NULL default ”, ” . ” link_image varchar(255) NOT NULL default ”, ” . ” link_target varchar(25) NOT NULL default ”, ” . ” link_category int(11) NOT NULL default 0, ” . ” link_description varchar(255) NOT NULL default ”, ” . ” link_visible enum (‘Y’,’N’) NOT NULL default ‘Y’, ” . ” link_owner int NOT NULL DEFAULT ‘1’, ” . ” link_rating int NOT NULL DEFAULT ‘0’, ” . ” link_updated DATETIME NOT NULL DEFAULT ‘0000-00-00 00:00:00’, ” . ” link_rel varchar(255) NOT NULL default ”, ” . ” link_notes MEDIUMTEXT NOT NULL default ”, ” . ” PRIMARY KEY (link_id) ” . “) “; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print (“Can’t create the table ‘$tablelinks’ in the database.

    Table ‘$tablelinks’ created OK
    \n”; $got_links = true; } } else { echo “
    Found table ‘$tablelinks’, don’t need to create it…
    \n”; $got_links = true; } if ($got_links && $got_cats) { echo “
    Looking for category 1…

    All done!
    \n”; } ?>
    Did you defeat the boss monster at the end? Great! Youa€?re ready for Step 2.
    Step 2
    First wea€?re going to create the necessary blog tables in the database…

    The first table has been created! …

    The test post has been inserted correctly…

    OK. We’re nearly done now. We just need to ask you a couple of things:
    What is the web address of your WordPress installation? (We probably guessed it for you correctly.)
    <?php echo $guessurl; ?>
    On to
    Step 3
    query($query); } // $query = “DROP TABLE IF EXISTS $tableusers”; // $q = mysql_query($query) or mysql_doh(“doh, can’t drop the table \”$tableusers\” in the database.”); $query = ” CREATE TABLE $tableusers ( ID int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, user_login varchar(20) NOT NULL default ”, user_pass varchar(64) NOT NULL default ”, user_firstname varchar(50) NOT NULL default ”, user_lastname varchar(50) NOT NULL default ”, user_nickname varchar(50) NOT NULL default ”, user_icq int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default ‘0’, user_email varchar(100) NOT NULL default ”, user_url varchar(100) NOT NULL default ”, user_ip varchar(15) NOT NULL default ”, user_domain varchar(200) NOT NULL default ”, user_brows

    Well, since it’s showing all the code in the install file; it doesn’t sound like PHP is working on your account. Have you tried running any other PHP on your account? Say something simple like saving the following line as info.php and putting it on your host?
    <?php phpinfo() ?>
    If you post a file with just this code on your site, then the site should return all kinds of info about your host. If it justs shows the PHP code; then you don’t have PHP working yet.
