I just installed WordPress today. Everything appears to be working perfect, except when I try to add/edit a post or page. As soon as I try to add/edit I get a scrambled page. The first time the editor showed for a few seconds and then vanished.

I have checked every other part of the control panel, and website and can’t locate any other issues.

I uploaded a screen shot of the issue to OneDrive. You won’t be able to see it live because it only happens in the admin control panel.

    Screen Shot: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmL8aIYnOOzppqQlw37hEJxNQohukw

    Thanks!

Edit: This is happening in both Edge and Chrome. ??

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional feature under create a new menu position Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.
There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.www.ads-software.com/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/

    Hi,

It is a new install. I didn’t install any new plugins except the 2 that came with WordPress. I am using the 2021 theme.

I ran the health check and got a couple errors. It was because I disabled automatic updates, and I have unused themes installed. Those are the default themes that came with WordPress.

I turned on troubleshooting mode and loaded the page again and this is what it shows now: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmL8aIYnOOzppqQnw37hEJxNQohukw

    Edit: The website is kennethrjones.com

Edit: It looks like it’s trying to load the editor and failing now: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmL8aIYnOOzppqQow37hEJxNQohukw

Edit: The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled.

    Thanks.

So there must be a problem with the server, or the install package. I have no idea. I created another domain on my server, fresh install, and got the exact same issue. I’ve looked at the source and I’m not an expert, but it seems like something is preventing the editor from being displayed properly.

I’m installing directly from Plesk Obsidian 18.0.34.

Any ideas why this would keep happening? I’m going to see if I can figure out what that imagick module is and install that. It says it’s optional so I don’t know if that would be causing this.

I manually installed WordPress an a 3rd test domain and that install is doing the exact same thing. I downloaded 5.7 directly from www.ads-software.com. So it’s not an issue with the files the web host is installing automatically through Plesk.

There has to be something wrong with the way the server is displaying the editor, or something is wrong with the download. Unless someone has another idea why this would happen on 3 different installs and 3 different domains. It happens on 3 different browsers as well so it’s not specific to one thing there either.

I can’t even search for any help on Google because I’m not sure how to define the error I’m seeing. “WordPress post edit blobby mess” doesn’t locate anything useful.

    Please contact your hosting provider.

Volunteers here have no access or control of your server.

Yep, this is clearly a bug in the editor as I have thought all along. I followed this article to disable the editor and bring the classic editor back. The issue resolved itself instantly. I re-enable the Gutenberg editor and it instantly comes back.

I’m not sure why wordPress is forcing people to use that editor anyway. It is terrible and complicated to use.

Here is the fix for anyone else having this issue in the future:

I am the hosting provider as this is on my dedicated server. A hosting provider wouldn’t help me with a WordPress bug anyway, they would just direct me back to WordPress.

Glad the classic editor is working for you ??

Thanks, do you think they are going to create an option to use the classic editor again or are we stuck with this new one now? I would rather not need a plug-in to fix this issue. I tried using the new editor anyway and it was too confusing, and images kept vanishing after I put them in. I was about to switch to something besides WordPress just to get away from that editor.

As far I know Block editor (aka: Gutenberg editor) is here to stay.
