• I’ve just manually updated my wordpress site (or at least tried to) to 3.9 from 3.5.1.

I followed the instructions and everything looked to work fine, when I went back to the dashboard it said it needed to update which it did, but now the wp-admin page is totally blank.

The only plugin I had running was akismet but I have now disabled it by renaming the folder to plugins.hold. This hasn’t made any difference. This has happened every time I’ve tried to update since 3.5.1 so have been holding off the updating process. I’m accessing the page through Chrome if that makes any difference, but is also blank in Firefox.

My actual site is up and viewable, plus it has the icons at the top saying 3 themes and a plug in need updating so it def looks to be running on the update.

    Hello,

You have not updated your site correctly. Some files are missing. That’s why you are getting this kind of error.

Delete below folder and files and upload new one. Download from www.ads-software.com

    wp-includes
    wp-admin
and all file which are on the root except .htaccess and wp-config.php

Hope it will help you to short out the issue.

    Thanks…

I’ve deleted and re-copied over the files and the issue remains the same.

I’ve renamed the theme I was using to diary.old and I had some admin pages but not enough to actually change anything, and even then not all the admin pages were showing anything.

I left the plugin deactivated (I only has askimet as a plugin nothing else activated or even installed).

Looking at the admin page in IE instead of Chrome shows http error 500 instead of nothing.

I think I’ll have to copy my back-up over fairly soon if I can’t fix this as I’ll need to add new posts. Since it might be theme based can I delete all the entries in the theme folder and re-download a new one? Or is this inadvisable?

Should add all themes in the folder bar twentyfourteen now have .old after their name, and the entire plugins folder now called .old but it still won’t load any admin pages.

I’m going to have to restore my backup and then as people give info from here I’ll try it out again.
