• To put it simply, the backend admin pages loaded just fine, and then I update my theme’s version to the most recent, and while the actual public website views and functions just fine, the backend admin pages do not. No error screens, nothing, just a black white screen. Has anyone else experienced this before? I find it hard to believe that I would have to reinstall WordPress altogether, but I’m sort of running out of ideas here based on my limited experience with this sort of problem.

    Cheers!

to rule out any plugin/theme-specific issue, try:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems. Also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder (if you have created such folder). The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins). If you don’t have access to your admin area, use FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder by adding “-old” to the end of the folder name. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.

Thanks for such a prompt reply!

    Current Status:
Can’t use web interface pages such as dashboard, used FTP.
Disabled plugins via FTP, no change.
Disabled the Divi Theme folder via FTP … bingo.

    Attempt to fix:
Backed up everything, deleted the Divi theme folder.
Reinstalled the theme with a fresh installation..
    Problem returns.

    Conclusion?:
Newest Divi is not compatible with latest wordpress? Can’t possibly be that– or else surely many others who updated their Divi would have experienced similar issues. Not sure what to do at this point, other than reverting back to an earlier version of Divi in order to see if more information develops. The weird thing is, the site works fine, the public can view and interact with it as normal, I just cant use any dashboard/admin pages.

What do you think about this situation?

    – This suggests issue with your theme.

    – The theme you referred to (“Divi”) is not in the WordPress official theme directory: https://www.ads-software.com/themes/search/Divi/

    – For questions regarding this theme, please contact its developers. You’ll be more likely to find a good answer from them, for they have the access to its code. Forum volunteers are not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your theme is not working properly. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product. Hi Tara,

Correct, it’s not a free Theme. And now that I’ve narrowed the issue down to being Divi related, I’ll ask them directly.

This all aside however, do you have any information to share on the subject of what happens when a Theme disables access to the WP dashboard? Surely this problem has come up before with other themes, right? Have you ever heard of any similar situations coming up?

    Thanks.

No, I have not heard it.

If you need further help on this new issue, I suggest you create a new post about it. That way other people can see it.

    Glad to know it ??
