• I have a WordPress site that I have not logged into in years. Navigating to my-site.com/admin takes me to a login page. Username is good, known password is not being accepted.

Click on ‘Lost your password’ and land on my-site.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Enter either email address or username and click ‘Get New Password’

Confirmation email is received with a link to reset the password.

Selecting the link takes me to my-site.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword&error=invalidkey

Error message: ‘Your password reset link appears to be invalid. Please request a new link below.’

This circle continued indefinitely with no relief. I have tried in Chrome, Safari, and Edge with the same results.

This article lists several completely different ways to reset your password. Any one of them will work and do the job. Find the one that’s right for you and use that: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/resetting-your-password/

    I disagree.

The first option requires that I am logged into the admin panel – I would love to be logged into that admin panel, but the password doesn’t work, as stated.

The second suggests the lost password emailer … which is the current problem described.

MySQL and php are not options for me. FTP is out, because I can’t log in. WP CLI is out, I don’t have an installation to manage.

Even if any of these other methods were possible for me, it still would not resolve the question as to why the emailer is failing.

PHPMYADMIN from your hosting control panel is the best bet. Contact your host if you need help with that. Let’s solve being logged in before solving the email mystery.

‘This article is for those who have phpMyAdmin access to their database.’

This is not something I have access to.

What I am hearing is that I need to hire someone to assist because the WP password reset button doesn’t work, and there is no way to fix that.

If I hire someone to help me access via php … I would have access, and no longer care about the invalid password reset email.
