Administrator can't create new roles

  • I am the admin of my page but I can’t seem to create roles in the dashboard. I get the error:

    You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.

    Any idea how to fix this?

  • Are you referring to users, not roles? Unless you’re using a role management plugin, you cannot create ‘roles’ – those are set by WP (Subscriber, Contributor, Author, Editor, and Administrator).

    If you’re using a role-management plugin, that’s your culprit, try posting for help in the plugin developers support forum.

    If you are referring to adding new users, not roles, is it possible that you’ve accidentally downgraded your own role in your profile by mistake?

    If that’s the case, you will need to access your database using something like phpMyAdmin to change your own role back to administrator, the instructions for which are in the last post in this thread:

    I am referring to roles. I don’t have a plugin to set roles but I know I have done this in the past as I have created custom roles. I have two roles, “Agent” and “Agency” that I am trying to adjust the restrictions on.
