Administrator Record Insert into MySQL

  • I have WordFence activated and have been having issues with a a “rootuser” being inserted into the MySQL database. The user is being set as an administrator. I have checked the option:

    Immediately block the IP of users who try to sign in as these usernames: and included admin, rootadmin and several others. I am still getting rootadmin inserted into the database. I even manually removed the user from the database and it keeps coming back. Not sure what to do next. Anyone have any ideas????

  • Hi,

    Has your site been infected or are you saying you’re seeing this activity after Wordfence was activated? Normally, when you see users being added to your DB, there is a hole somewhere. Update everything and deactivate any themes and plugins you are not using. Also, if you are on a shared server, another infection on the same server can cause issues with your instance.

    I am not on a shared server and the server is protected with an SSL certificate. This activity started AFTER WordFence was installed. I can sometimes get the user to drop for a month and then it comes back. I know there is a hole, the issue is where. I’ll have to look again. I can shut down plugins, but then I have to wait a day or two and the results are likely inconclusive. There has to be another way to figure this out. I can’t deactivate the site functionality for that long.
