• Why in the world would the plugin suddenly not allow ADMINS to see the member content pages?!

    I get this error:

Warning! Simple Membership plugin cannot process this login request to prevent you from getting logged out of WP Admin accidentally.

You are logged into the site as an ADMIN user in this browser. First, logout from WP Admin then you will be able to log in as a member.

Alternatively, you can use a different browser (where you are not logged-in as ADMIN) to test the membership login.

Your normal visitors or members will never see this message. This message is ONLY for ADMIN user.

Hi, this is very odd. Can you carry out the following troubleshooting steps.

    Thank you

Deactivated all plugins and themes (except simple membership) and still get the error. Didn’t happen until a couple months ago, then suddenly started. Happy to give you admin access to the site to see what I’m doing wrong?!

Can you provide more information in regards to the following comment.

Didn’t happen until a couple months ago, then suddenly started.

    What changed?

Can you also try the following, deactivate and uninstall Simple Membership. Then install a fresh copy.

I don’t know what changed. I assumed it was something with your plugin.
I tried deleting the plugin and reinstalling. Still getting the error.

I have tested this option in one of my testing sites and it is working for me.

Lets try something new. Can you answer all my questions below.

    1) You log into your WordPress website via wp-admin as the administrator, correct?
    2) When you try to view the protected content in your site while you are still logged in as an administrator, you get the above mentioned warning message, correct?
    3) Did you install the add-on I shared above?
    4) Can you create a new admin account. Then log in with this admin account and carry out a test. What happens then?
    5) What browser and operating system are you using?

    Regards

    1 – correct
    2 – correct
    3 – yes
4 – same thing (did this earlier today twice)
5 – chrome, windows 10. but my client uses IE and older windows and has the same problem.

    Here’s a video I made showing the process…

Hi, I saw your video and I don’t see you log out from your site and then log back in with your new admin account.

Also the membership account you created was done via the plugin Simple Membership. In my steps above I forgot to add the following step. Create a new admin account through WordPress User tab. Then give that admin access to the protected content via the add-on I mentioned above. I am almost 100% this will work.

I think what has happened is that we were both on different paths. You have been creating membership accounts and giving them admin access via the plugin. That is not how the add-on I mentioned above works. I misunderstood your original question. The reason why I recommended the add-on was because of the following comment.

Why in the world would the plugin suddenly not allow ADMINS to see the member content pages?!

I thought you were talking about WordPress admin accounts. But from the video I now know what you meant by providing admin access to the content.

If you create a member via Simple Membership, this member will belong to a membership level. When you protect a page or post you will assign the correct membership levels. So if the new Manager member you have created does not belong to one of the access levels assign to a page or post then they will not see the content. If this is what you are trying to achieve then the add-on is not needed.

Let me know if you understand my comment above.

    Regards
