    Hey there,

recently a WP plugin author asked on G+ to adopt some of her own WP plugins because she doesn’t work as a WP plugin author anymore. Unfortunately at the same time she sent out a deletion request for all of her plugins, and so they are deleted already.

They’re, however, still existing as SVN repos, e.g. here.

My question is: What would be the best and easiest way to adopt an already deleted plugin? The easiest way would have been for her to add me as contributor, but she missed that opportuntity.

Is there a way to ask to restore some of her plugins and add me as contributor? I can checkout the SVN repo, but I can’t commit to it for obvious reasons, but I’d like the plugins to stay alive.

    Thanks!

Oliver? Don’t tag topics like this with modlook, that’s not what that tag is for.

As the plugin has been marked for deletion why not simply fork that available GPL code (maintaing credit of course) and re-submit it with a modified plugin title? If you search the plugin repo for reloaded you’ll see many such plugins.

That may not be the shortcut you’re looking for but as long as you adhere to the plugin rules and are patient then that should work.

Sorry Jan, didn’t mean to abuse the tag. I did read the page you’re linking before creating the topic and did use the tag for exactly that reason: contacting a mod or wp.org representative hoping someone would be able to “undelete” some of the plugins (possibly the same guys who receive deletion requests). Sorry again!

Forking would indeed be a solution there, but people that still have the “old” plugin installed would never see or get any plugin updates I’ll release, so hoping to “undelete” the deleted plugins would be the better way to go for users and me regarding maintaining the plugin as is. The current user base started using a possible outdated plugin yesterday (when the plugins were deleted) and they don’t even know as they’ll never get any updates. My hope was to avoid that.

Lack of coffee prevented me from replying with this tidbit: try contacting the plugin D/L via plugins [at] www.ads-software.com and see what they say regarding this.

Please keep in mind that plugin submissions often keep that group very busy (big understatement!) so if you do not get a response soon just be patient.

Thanks Jan, I’ll try that. I’m not in a hurry, I’m just trying to find the best way for both me and the plugin’s users. Let’s see what the plugin guys say. ??

    Thanks again!

They’re not ACTUALLY deleted. They’re just removed from the repo. Or… hidden.

Easiest way: The owner needs to email plugins, the same way she did to have us close, and ask us to add someone, including their forum ID so we know who ?? Also ALWAYS link to the plugin. 26k and growing? If you say “I want to give my twitter plugin to Bob” we tend to reply “That’s not. Which Bob and which plugin? Links and usernames please and thank you :)”

IF the plugin was open, the method is easier: Old owner goes to the admin tab, adds your user ID with commit access. You log in, go to the same tab, remove them. Party on, dudes!

Thanks a lot, Ipstenu! Already told her what to do. ??
