I auto updated Adrotate and I get this message

AdRotate 3.6 and up requires PHP 5.3 or higher. Consider upgrading your server!

I’m planning to deactivate AdRotate first but every time I access my dashboard or plugins page, this error message shows up. How do I deactivate/downgrade adrotate? Thanks in advance!

  • Same here.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Had this happen to me too.

I ended up going to my host (in this case GoDaddy – don’t laugh) and upgrading my PHP version in my hosting settings. Then, I manually deactivated my plugins (see https://www.webhostinghero.com/manually-disable-wordpress-plugins/ for help) which got me back into the dashboard. Once there, I reactivated my plugins and the plugin was back up and running fine.

@chrissydb good ?? Most hosting providers provide multiple versions which you can enable. Usually somewhere in cPanel/Plesk/DirectAdmin.

PHP 5.2 is rather old and hasn’t been updated since 2011.
PHP 5.3 has been around since June 2009 and is well tested and very stable.
There is no reason to not upgrade.

Certain features in AdRotate work better with newer PHP versions. Some functions even require 5.3 – And have been for some time.

hey @arnan, I deleted the plugin by ftp, and then updated the php to 5.3 through godaddy, and then reinstalled the plugin but still the same issue persisted! Can you help? I’m now losing on the advertisement and don’t want the advertisers to notice already >.<“
    Thanks

Iman, if the error persists you didn’t upgrade to PHP5.3 – Or if you did, it’s not active.
Check with your hosting provider which version you use now. Perhaps your server needs restarting. Or the newer version simply didn’t install correctly.

While you’re at it, PHP5.3 is nearing End of Life soon too – PHP 5.5 is current.

But again, your hosting provider should be able to be of more help. I don’t control your server and I don’t know anything about your particular server.

Hello, same situation if anyone has any ideas. Don’t want to lose all the ads that are running now.

Only affects the dashboard area and not the front end site.

@rngeer – As previous posts suggest: The idea is that you use a recent/current version of PHP. So select a more recent version of PHP in your hosting control panel or talk to you hosting provider about upgrading your PHP version.

Not sure why this is marked as resolved. I had to revert to the last version of the plugin.

I am back working with the current version, must have been a slow PHP upgrade process on the server.

@daniella – It’s marked resolved because the question has been addressed and a solution provided/suggested.

    @rngeer – Could be ?? Glad it’s working now!

Good thing I have backed up my site few days ago, I deleted adrotate folder via ftp and uploaded my backup adrotate folder, switched back to AdRotate 3.10.7. I think it’s the last version that supports PHP 5.2.

It would be helpful for others if the plugin won’t activate if it detected that the server is using PHP 5.2. There’s no information earlier on the adrotate plugin page about PHP 5.3 but I’m glad it’s there now.

    This is resolved. ??

Yess! Like @rngeer said, must have been slow PHP upgrade in the back end. I’m finally working on the new version as well.
    Thank you guys.
