    Hi there,

Google Adsense has informed me that I now need an ads.txt file – which I have uploaded to public_html, now I just need to know if the sitemap will pick it up?

    Thanks,
    Chery.

    Hi Chery,

The ads.txt file is an optional, non-standard directive which proponents, like Google Adsense, will look for periodically and automatically.

The sitemap.xml file yields a standard protocol which informs search engines of indexable documents that are available for crawling. The catch is that Google expects every item in this file should be for humans, too. The ads.txt file is not for humans, and therefore, it shouldn’t be in the sitemap.

There’s a lot more to it than this, but the gist is that it’s redundant and counter-productive to add it to the sitemap.

I hope this clears that up ?? Cheers!
