Adsense CPC and CPR went to 0

  • Hmmm. My adsense took a bit hit earnings-wise in January. I was playing around with different themes and I must’ve rubbed it the wrong way. In late February, Google banned me for 2 weeks for “invalid clicks” though I have no clue what caused that. When I got the acct back in early March, it seemed like things were suddenly back to normal, $3-$4 a day. March 24th, my CPC and CTR went to $0 and 0% most days now. Lucky to get 1 daily hit. Traffic is relatively consistent this whole time. So now I’m lucky to make 10 cents a day instead of $4 a day.

    Is there something wonky about my code or theme? This is the same theme I’ve had since January and part of last year, give or take a few days. I took off Auto-optimize plugin and my GDPR plugin today (and switched to the Google GDPR message as someone else was advised to do) to see if that does anything, but nothing so far.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Holly,

    I checked your website. The ad code is correctly embedded, and AdSense Auto ads appear on mobile and desktop. Have you used Auto ads before you got limited because of invalid clicks?

    You might test injecting some ad units manually with the help of an ad management plugin like Advanced Ad to see if this can improve your CTR.

    As far as I can see, you have done everything correct, including the ads.txt file.

    Thanks for checking, that’s a relief just knowing everything looks correct. Yes, I’ve used auto ads ever since they became available and only had the issue start in January. I think removing one of those plugins may have fixed it. Either auto-optimize, or GDPR may have been the culprit? If not, I’ll try Advanced Ad.
