I have an XHTML/CSS static site that I would like to move into WordPess. I’m doing this to develop my ability to build a theme. What would be the best way to do this?:
    1. Find a theme similar to what I have, download it, and make changes?
    2. Write the WP code needed into the new theme by hand (looking at another WP theme)?
    3. Is there a blank development WP theme that can be used as a skeleton so to speak.
    4. Any other?

  • I’d recommend getting an existing theme with minimal styling which you can edit and learn with as you go along. One such example would be the Toolbox theme. Try searching for “WordPress starter themes” on WP.org Extend or Google if you want to compare features, such as number of widget areas.

Theme frameworks are a more advanced option but something to keep in mind when you’ve grown in WP theme development. ??
