• Hi guys,

Dunno what this is, or where it came from, and I don’t believe my website’s been hacked, but going through my robots.txt file this morning, there was a load of code added from something called WBCPBlocker.

    For example

    # BEGIN WBCPBlocker

    SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent “AhrefsBot” block_bot

    SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent “MJ12bot” block_bot

    SetEnvIfNoCase User-Agent “Rogerbot” block_bot

Does anyone know exactly what WBCPBlocker is, where it comes from, and if it’s from a plugin – how to stop it adding coding to my robots.txt?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Hello steveraven

It can be any plugin you have used, or might be some other mode hacker might have tried to figure out the way.

Try to use some security plugin like Sucuri Security Or WordFence.

If that helps and make sure you take a complete backup of your site.

    Thanks.

For some reason something, maybe a plugin maybe a nulled theme or a hacked functions file, doesn’t want your site to respond to certain user agents. Maybe just a borrowed robots.txt file.

You might start by running your site through https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/

I’d install health check and use that to kill the plugins and switch themes to a default theme temporarily… clean out my robots text file of that ‘block_bot stuff’ and monitor that as I turn things back on one at a time. When you see it added back you can look at what you just did and probably see the problem… maybe not.

Upon a further look I found one of those bots listed in one of my anti-spam systems so maybe that is all totally legit.

I’ve just run Sucuri Site check on it, and the website came back clean.

I’m using Wordfence – AND ithemes security – AND Shield security – are all these security plugins a bit overkill?

I’ll try disabling all plugins later on tonight when the traffic is not so heavy, but one thing I DID add earlier on, was Broken Link Checker, which ties in with when the bots code started appearing.

    Thanks for the help!
