I don’t have much experience but I’ve created a website for my wife’s Playgroup using WordPress and it’s worked out quite well.

I want to create another website to introduce technical experts to client companies. The site would have the capabilities of the experts arranged hierarchically on different pages.

The client companies would search the website and find someone with the required skills. It would be nice if a certain amount of communication could be allowed between expert and client so they could make sure they weren’t wasting each other’s time.

On the payment of a fee by the client company contact details would be released.

Could WordPress be used for such a website?

sure, you could have a category called ‘experts’ and make a post for each expert, with a contact form
for each one which sends the form info to each person’s own email address. and I believe there is an ecommerce-type plugin called YAK that helps you add a paypal button to posts to accept payment.
