    Hello.

I have 0 Blocked Bots after having installed Blackhole for Bad Bots about 2 months ago. I’ve configured the robots.txt file as required and I checked the configuration a few times to make sure it’s correct.

    My robots.txt file:
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /?blackhole

    Disallow: /wp*

    – robots.txt Validator and Testing Tool confirmed the robots.txt file is valid etc.

    Page Source:

<a rel="nofollow" style="display:none;" href="https://oohlalazouk.com/?blackhole=c90929acaa" title="Blackhole for Bad Bots">Do NOT follow this link or you will be banned from the site!</a>

    – The Blackhole for Bad Bots generated link exists in homepage source code
    – clicking on this link did generate a “You have fallen into a trap!” page
    – subsequent visits were blocked with a black page
    – my IP address was identified in the Blocked Bots list.
    – this is the 1 & only entry in the Blocked Bots list since installing 2 months ago

    Extra Info
I use Cloudflare with Firewall rules
    I use NO cache plugins

    What do you think?

    Thanks for your help,
    Julian

    Hi Julian,

Glad to help. It looks like everything is setup correctly and you have read thru the documentation about caching plugins, etc. So that is good. It is not however uncommon for sites to have super low rate of bad bots. It could be a new(er) site, not much traffic, or it could just be “off the radar” of most bad bot scripts, etc. Just because you have a trap set, does not guarantee that something will fall into it. If anything it means that your site enjoys a low rate of honeypot-seeking bots, at least for now.
