Are the plugin files still in the /wp-content/plugins/ directory when you access your server via FTP?

If so, pick the least necessary plugin from there and delete it’s entire directory, just completely delete it. Then, head back to the Plugins -> Add New section in your blog’s Dashboard, find and install it as if it were new. Does that plugin show up properly?

Also, were you using the MailPoet plugin?

Hello, yes, they are still there except the two php files have been deleted. I can’t even restore it, it gives me “the destination directory does not exist.”eror message. I’ll try what you said and get back to you shortly . No I’m not using that plugin, why?

It didn’t work either. I did exactly the same way you wrote. But as the php files have been deleted I can’t restore or install anything new. What is this problem related with? I have never seen anything like that. What should I do now?

Would you please quote the full exact error you receive when you attempt tp reinstall the plugin?

Also, you earlier stated “they are still there except the two php files have been deleted.” Which two php files, and why were they deleted?

    Hello,

When I go to wp-plugin in FTP every plugin is there including php files(hello.php and index.php) but when I click on enable history, I see that these two php files, hello.php and index.php have been deleted. I didn’t do anything like that and I have no idea how they have been deleted. The full error message when I try to restore these php file are: THE DESTINATION DIRECTORY DOES NOT EXIST.

When I try to install a new plugin in my dashboard I get this error:
    “Downloading install package from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/pinterest-pin-it-button-for-images.zip…
    Unpacking the package…
    Installing the plugin…
    Could not create directory. /home/content/11/11335011/html/wp-content/plugins/pinterest-pin-it-button-for-images/
    Plugin install failed.”

    What should I do?

OK, I’m not sure what “enable history” is, it might be unique to your FTP client, so let’s not worry about that.

At the moment, without any fancy history features, and when connected to your server via FTP, do you see a /wp-content/plugins/ directory? If so, try changing the permissions of the /wp-content/plugins/ directory to 777, then try installing the new plugin again.

I read the link about changing the permissions but I can’t do any change to the numeric valu cause I can’t see it. I can see the read write and they all look correct but I can’t see the numeric value. With the righr click to index.php there is no option as permissions:(

Where should I reach the permissons? from FTP or dashboard?

Hello James, are you there? I need help:(

Permissions are usually changed through your FTP client, you’ll need to check out its documentation.

I have this exact same problem. This is so frustrating! I literally just launched my site a week ago and now this happens. Does anyone have any answers?? This is a disaster.

Also, eva I have issues beyond the plugins. If I try to upload a media file, such as a picture, I recieve a directory error. I deactivated all plugins and attempted to delete but was unable to. GoDaddy suggested I simply delete and reinstall the plugins.

I’m still very new to this and I would not say I’m totally comfortable with FTP yet. After being unable to delete the plugins on wordpress I went the route of deleting them directly on my server through FTP.

I’d like to stress that none of these problems occurred prior to the 3.9.2 update.

After deleting I was unable to install. Still recieve the same errors upon installing the plugins. Now I am worse off than I was before because the plugins are completely gone and unable to be installed. I am clueless on what to do. This sucks.

Also, Eva had you recently changed your url or main file locations? Originally my site was https://www.evolveworkforce.com/wordpress. Somehow it was created this way when I initially started to build the site.

A friend of mine moved the site files to httpdocs I believe. I’m not sure where they were at before. He made this change after the prior update. So, since the change was made I hadn’t updated WordPress.

From there he was able to change my site to just https://www.evolveworkforce.com. Not sure if this extra info helps in any diagnosis. I’m pretty unfamiliar.
