This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Nineteen theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    I use twenty nineteen.

And I already did what you suggested (disabling all plugins). It’s not the plugins, the source of error is WordPress 5.3 itself.

I noticed that if the post is long (longer than 2,000 words) the update fails. Shorter posts updates successfully, if they do NOT include an iframe (i.e. google maps etc). If there’s an Iframe, google maps or something, update fails (gives “The response is not a valid JSON response” error).

I remember you (or somebody else) suggested installing the Health Check plugin a few months ago in another thread. Did you read the reviews of this plugin? I’d never install it.

Interesting, I’m not running into this myself on any of my sites. Which version of PHP are you running, and do you have the Gutenberg plugin installed (do not install it if you don’t have it, just a question)?

Did you read the reviews of this plugin? I’d never install it.

The plugin has improved significantly since we took it over, hence the recommendation. ??

Recent negative reviews appear to be user error.

    PHP 7.3.11
    Gutenberg installed

Digging a bit further, I realized that not all long posts are giving the error, only some of them.

If I can figure out what is wrong with these posts, I’ll write here.

Any improvement if you deactivate the Gutenberg plugin?

The Block Editor has been built into WordPress since WordPress 5, Gutenberg is now just the testing ground for upcoming features (and therefore may break occasionally).

Sorry, I meant I am using Gutenberg which built in WordPress. I removed Gutenberg plugin after it merged into the WP core.

So there’s no Gutenberg plugin installed but I am using Gutenberg editor.

I think I found what the problem is. If there’s a “Custom Html” block, update always fails – regardless of what’s in that block.

    Interesting!

Would you please report that following the steps at https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/handbook/testing/reporting-bugs/ ?

Created a ticket as you suggested.
