• Hello,

my WP-Blog was working as a Website for some years without problems.

After being in hospital for several months my Webhoster Strat

o was deleting the whole webspace and they say it can not be restored anymore.

So I was uploading my backup copy on the new webspace I received.

Changing the DB and User name in wp-config.php.

But, no matter what I am doing, my old Blog can not be reactivated.

After some “working” (trying this and that with no clue) I got the Welcome-Screen of WP saying that I can now install WP (although it was already installed, uploading all my files by FileZilla to the new Webspace).

So I have filled in the Username and the Password at the appearing WP installation screen.

And now, when I log in, it shows me that I have a new WP Blog …

The old adress of my WP Blog was “wasserspiele.emotion-experts.com”. But now this adress is showing to my second WP Blog at the Webhoster 1und1.de (which is an old Blog missing all the several sites I have created in the last years at the Strato-Webhosting Blog I now wanted to reactivate).

Does anybody know what I can do to reactivate my Blog?

What filed do I have to show you so you can help me?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Thomas

When you restored the blog, did you already restore the MySQL database?

If so, check the wp-config.php file and make sure that the $table_prefix line matches the prefix of the actual database tables.

    James,

thank you so muach for your answer.

I will immediately try to check this out (although I have no clue if I will be able to do that – sounds for me too complicated …).

    Thank you anyway!

    James,

yes, I have checked the name of the $table_prefix and it seems to be OK.

During all my different tries I tried to change this name several times, but it did not change my problem in any way …

    Do you have another hint???

Access your database via phpMyAdmin, usually found in your hosting account’s control panel, and see if you have more than one table name ending in _posts.

Does one have more items than the other? If so, make sure the prefix of the one with more items is referenced in your wp-config.php file.

If you only have one table name ending in _posts, does the number of items closely match the number of posts+pages you had?

    James,

yes, I checked $table_prefix now for several times. It matches.

But I still receive the WP-message-screen that I have to choose the name and the PW of the WP blog …

    James,

I have only one table name ending in _posts.

I has 456 entries, and it is very possible that my blog hat that amount of posts and pages I had.

Now I tried once more to start the blog, but there still appears the screen telling me that Welcome to the 5 minute installation of WP and that I should fill in the name of the “new” blog and the PW …

Hm, all I can really say is, if WordPress is directed to the right database username and password with the right table prefix, all via wp-config.php, it will find the database and not ask you to install.

At this point, I recommend hiring someone to give them direct access so they can sort this out for you.

Please try https://jobs.wordpress.net/ or https://directory.codepoet.com/ and do not accept any hire or direct access offers posted to these forums.

    James,

yes, this is what drives me crazy. I know that WP finds the database, and I have no clue what is going on …

OK, I will try to find somebody who probably can help me.

Thank you very much for trying help me.

    Regards,
