As mentioned in the title, after payment-failure the woocommerce cart is emptied.
This happens when checking out as guest or as a logged in user.
This is not desirable behavior as one can imagine that a customer has valid reasons to return to the cart at a later stage and initiate payment again.
For instance used the wrong card, remembered to add another item, etc..

Especially for guests this would mean lost conversion since the order is not saved under their account (“my orders”) and a guest shopper would need to manually add all items in the basket again.

I would make the case that even for a logged in user, this adds an unnecessary hurdle to order-completion as that user would have to go into “my orders” to retrieve the order with pending payment. Even though no indication is made to the logged-in user that the contents of the cart have been moved to “my orders” with a status of pending payment.

At any rate for guest check-out I would suggest that after payment-failure and payment cancellation the guest shopper would still be able to retrieve their cart.

I used the iDeal payment to test and selected “betaling mislukt” (=”payment failed”)
