After Polylang installation sitemaps don’t work properly

Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin. It would be helpful if you could share specific URLs reported by Google Search Console not to be indexed and the reasons stated in your page indexing report.

There are a lot non indexed pages: at the moment 154 pages have no index and 80 have it. Anyway, here some examples:

• Error 404: “Search Console has detected that some of your pages on your website are not being indexed due to the following new reason: Not Found (404)”; URL: https://storiatralepagine.it/ricerca-storica/antica-grecia/
• Duplicate page: “Search Console has detected that some of your pages on your website are not being indexed due to the following new reason: Duplicate page, Google has chosen a different canonical page than the one specified by the user.”; URL: https://storiatralepagine.it/creare-contesto/

1. https://storiatralepagine.it/ricerca-storica/antica-grecia/ – the page does not exist anymore. Did you recently delete it?
2. For https://storiatralepagine.it/creare-contesto/, the canonical URL is the same as the page URL – <link rel="canonical" href="https://storiatralepagine.it/creare-contesto/">. Inspect this URL?to see the Google-selected canonical URL under?Page indexing > Google-selected canonical.
3. For https://storiatralepagine.it/en/creating-context/, the page was found by Google but not crawled yet. Typically, Google wanted to crawl the URL, but this was expected to overload the site; therefore, Google rescheduled the crawl. Can you confirm what the last crawl date is on the report?
4. For https://storiatralepagine.it/robots.txt, there’s nothing wrong with the file. It’s not supposed to be in search results, anyway

1. I never deleted it, but I discovered that somewhat a new version of the page was created (https://storiatralepagine.it/ricerca-storica/antica-grecia-it/). It makes no sense because the English version is totally different (https://storiatralepagine.it/en/historical-research/ancient-greece/).
2. Not sure what I should do: I requested to index the page again from Google Search Console. Google seems to have created a new version of the URL (https://storiatralepagine.it/inizia-qui/creare-contesto/).
3. On the report I see “N/D”. Maybe is it just a matter of time?
4. What do you mean saying that it’s not supposed to be in search results? That errors can’t appear in the robots.txt?

1. It’s unclear what happened. It could be that the page slug was mistakenly changed with it added. This new URL and the EN version are in the sitemap and already indexed, though the EN version is not yet indexed so you can request indexing for it.
2. Google doesn’t create versions of pages. Visiting https://storiatralepagine.it/inizia-qui/creare-contesto/ has a 301 redirect to https://storiatralepagine.it/creare-contesto/. Google doesn’t index pages with redirects, so https://storiatralepagine.it/inizia-qui/creare-contesto/ will not be indexed.
3. Since Google wanted to crawl but rescheduled, that’s the expected last crawl date. It will be crawled later.
4. Your robots.txt file is not for human site visitors but bots, so it is not supposed to be in search results. I do not see an error in the contents of the file as it is now.

Ok, thank you. It seems that a lot of changes are ongoing on the website, But I’m not doing anything. I can’t understand if they depend on Yoast, Polylang or both. Why are there all these redirects and changes on URLs?

Yoast SEO will not change the URL of your page by itself. I’m unsure about how you implemented language URLs when you installled the Polylang plugin. You may reach out to them for further asisstance.
