After trashing a page it still shows in the languages list

I’m updating a website that already has two languages. I want to trash the pages of the second language, and then add them again (so they will be an exact copy) and then re-translate them. But after trashing the pages they still show in the languages list. If I try to edit a page, I get a message that the page must be retrieved from trash. I want them to disappear from the list so I can add them again. Any ideas?
