    Hey,

after updating from 1.9.5 to 2.1.8 I get strange errors. After I edit a site and publish it, I get “There was an error with your selected topic.”

The selected topic is exactly the same as before the update. I can’t figure out whats causing this.

Sorry to hear about the troubles. Can you turn on debug logging and share what it says?

    https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-error-log-debug/

Also, can you please provide a more specific description of what you were trying to do? Were you creating a new post? Editing an existing post?

What type of post is it? Normal post? Page? Custom post type?

What sorts of edits did you make? Just changing content? Title? Permalink? Associated bbpress topic?

    Thanks.

    Hey @nickchomey,

thanks for the quick reply! Sorry, here is what I was trying to do:

I am trying to edit the already existing content of a page.

My only edit was a missing . (dot)

Thanks for the details. I’ll do some testing soon on editing pages – I had only tested posts and cpts.

To be clear, you already had this page and it was already linked to a bbpress topic? And when you added a dot to the content, you got that error?

A final request, can you share a link to a screenshot of the bbpress topics for posts settings panel? It is peculiar that the error says forum_id=0. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

You could even try making sure it is pointing to the right topic and forum.

Yes, this page and content already existed and it was linked to a bbpress topic.

I didnt press “Apply settings to existing posts and pages”, would that fix my problem maybe? See Screenshots above

Thanks. It looks like you have set it so that all topics are created in the “Archiv” forum. But in the post’s settings, it just says Select a Forum.

What does it look like for other posts and pages? Does it show Archiv or Select a Forum?

What about if you create a brand new page?

Pressing the “Apply settings” button might fix the problem. Though, be warned that if you have many posts and linked topics, it could take a while – it goes through each one and processes the settings.

If it is easy for you to do, I’d suggest taking a backup first just in case it does something that you don’t want. (That’s always good practice for any plugin updates/new actions).

Ok, I’ve replicated the issue now and I’m currently debugging it. I suspect the fix will be quite minor. Best not to apply settings or do anything else until it is fixed.

EDIT: Wow, we really commented the same second. Great to hear! Please let me know when you have come up with a solution. Thanks!

Thanks, we’re in different time zones so just got them now. I’ll look into it all shortly.

Is there any ETA on the release to fix this?

@justin-bigscoots we didn’t pursue this much further as it became clear that David’s site was just completely broken.

If you’re having the same issues, please share some screenshots and detailed description of it all and we can look into fixing whatever the problem is.

Hi @nickchomey I’m working with @justin-bigscoots on the site in question.

After updating from 1.9.5 to 2.1.8:

    1. We publish a post and attach a topic. Everything is normal. The topic is created, and it exists in the right spot in our forums.

    2. We go back to edit that post (doesn’t matter what the edit is, but let’s just say it’s a spelling correction in the post content) and click the Update button, and the following message is returned via a white screen:

“There was an error with your selected topic.”

    (@nickchomey)

Sorry to hear that. Can you give more details please? Perhaps start with turning on debug logging and check the log? Also, first try updating to the most recent version 2.1.9.
