Hi, I did a long overdue update of the EME from version 2.0.61 to the 2.1.26. All pages with EME shortcodes in them now generates a 404 error empty page. Had to roll back page with a backup. I am running the site on WordPress 5.2.2, PHP 7.2.17.

Are there shortcodes or placeholders between the versions that has been deprecated and could result in 404:s?

This is examples of shortcodes in pages that after update generates 404.

    [eme_events category=6 template_id=3]

    [eme_calendar category=6 month=11]

    This is template 3

Check that the special EME events page is still linked to a correct wordpress page in the EME settings.
And if that doesn’t work: regenerate your wordpress permalinks (just press “save” in the wordpress permalinks settings menu).

Done both. Still not working. The special Events page contains the right page but generates 404.

An overview page works with these shortcodes showing both events and calendar:
    ——
    [eme_events category=1,3,4,5]
    [eme_calendar category=1,3,4,5]
    ——

But another page containing [eme_events category=1] generates 404 (completely empty white page

I rolled back Events Made Easy to 2.0.61. Everything works as before. Quite a lot of versions between 2.0.61 and the current. Is there some version you think likely is to blame? Maybe I could try the version before that? Or we just keep using the 2.0.61.

If you keep using an old version, you’re out of support for newer versions of wp as well as bug fixes.
Concerning the special events page: you can’t use it directly in your menu or anywhere (maybe that is your issue). You just need it as a placeholder page in the EME settings. If something is blocking access to that page (by default it should return an empty page), then it will not work. Maybe check your security plugin (try disabling it and go from there).
But I’m a little confused as well: is the wordpress page containing the shortcodes returing a 404, or when you click on an event link? Because if the wordpress page returns a 404, it is unrelated to EME (unless you try to use the shortcode on the special events page, or are not allowed to view that page).

Yes, I have to get back to a state where the booking works.

I don’t use the Special Events Page anywhere. And to make it very clear: with Events Made Easy 2.0.61 everything works ok.

I tried disabling the security plugin. No change.

I got a message sent from the WordPress installation (since 5.2) telling me there is something wrong with Events Made Easy. Do you want me to post the message or should I send it in an email?

Wordpress sending you a message there’s something wrong with a plugin? Weird but nice … maybe that’s the reason. It might be that the update is not successful on your wordpress installation. Feel free to send me that via mail, and also it would be nice if you can reproduce the issue on a testserver and show that.

Yes, solved. Much obliged for the helpful support. I’ll leave it to the plugin author to explain why it occurred or let the plugin check for possible conflicting URLs.
