after upgrade to 2.8, site displays internal server error

  • I did the automatic upgrade to 2.8, and now my site won’t display anymore. I get the following error:

    Redirect Loop

    Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

    The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

    * Have you disabled or blocked cookies required by this site?
    * NOTE: If accepting the site’s cookies does not resolve the problem, it is likely a server configuration issue and not your computer.

    I tried deactivating plugins, changing themes (the site shows up correctly in the theme preview, but not for real), deleting .htaccess, clearing cookies & cache. None of that worked. Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot, Allard

    I just tried switching which version of PHP is used (tried both 4 and 5) by adding a line to the htaccess file. Didn’t work either.
