After upgrade to 2.9, DashBoard says “The data could not be converted to UTF-8”

  • On the Dashboard, under the “Incoming Links” “WordPress Development Blog,” and the “Other WordPress News” buttons, this appears:

    The data could not be converted to UTF-8

    What’s this mean and why is it there? There used to be all sorts of info there now there’s nothing.
