After upgrading to 4.4 my site is now unavailable with fatal error. Clearly there is a file missing – I cant even access the admin page to sign in. I can access the CPanel but have no idea what to do there! I do have an Upgrade Plus file backup – but no idea what to do with that either. Is there a way to downgrade via CPanel please – can anyone help me? This is the error on https://www.beaconoflightenfield.co.uk

Warning: require(/data02/c6071476/public_html/wp-includes/class-walker-category.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /data02/c6071476/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 150

Please? Appreciate your time and hep… Thank you!

The website is only a very small one for our Church – contains a few plugins – but nothing huge! The only one I pay a subscription for is Zedity which I updated just before the WordPress update!

I knew where you’d end up which is why I offered my help earlier (for free).

I’d be delighted to help you, Carol, but the moderator (Andrew) will not allow me to post my contact details or a link to my contact page.

I’m in the UK, by the way.

Hi Andrew – now that Twenty thirteen in is the folder -how do I activate it please?

    @carol Long
First things first. Do not offer any credentials or give any credentials to anyone on or from the forums. Bad things could happen and all we can do is say “we told you so” at which point there will be little to no support.

Lets take a step back and look at what is going on before deleting/renaming/unpacking anything else.

    – Do you have a backup of you site before it went down?
    – If not MAKE ONE NOW (yes even if it is broken).

Your install/theme/plugins seem to be causing you issues so lets get rid of them all together for the time being.

Make a backup of your site and DB.
Download the latest WP package from https://www.ads-software.com/download/
Remove all files from you website except wp-config.php, then upload the WP package you just downloaded.
Your site should work by default but if not, you may have to log in and set your theme to twenty fifteen.
If your site is working, then you can upload the “uploads” directory from you backup back into the site. “wp-content/uploads”.
Upload your plugins from your backup. Ensure to do this one at a time. This will allow you to check which plugin(s) are crashing your site.
Do the same as plugins to your theme. Notice I said theme and not theme(s). There is no point to have more than the one primary theme and one backup.
Test your site to make sure all is well again.

If the manual restore does not work, you have other issues and should contact your host for further assistance. If the tasks above are are above your comfort level in server structure and WordPress. you can either ask your host to do it for you or visit jobs.wordpress.net and post a project there.

oh golly! this is too much for me – I have a updraft back up from a few days ago – what can I do with that? I have renamed the plugins folder and renamed the 2 themes I was using – and installed twentyfifteen – but give me ohter files to backup and sort through and im crying ??

Make a new backup through cPanel. This includes all files and DB. Then delete everything and reinstall a fresh WordPress which ever way you are comfortable. Once your fresh site is installed, install updraft, upload your backup files, click restore and you should be back in business.

! ! ! yep ok! I got it! …not? so 1 by 1 – Ive downloaded 4.4 am I still deleting all the WP files apart from config php 2. and if so how?

Support here can only go so far given the nature of how support can be given. If you feel that the tasks are above your comfort zone, I highly recommend higher a developer (jobs.wordpress.net) or contacting your host to apply one of their backups for you.

Self hosted WordPress is simple and can be complicated but does assume that the user have some server/hosting knowledge beyond posting to a blog or uploading images. With this said, you can move your website hosting over to WordPress.com where your website could be managed and support has access to your account (after this issue is resolved).

    – All the steps above will require FTP to the account.

ok – thanks – but we dont have funds to pay for anyone to do this – I constructed the site and it has been wonderful up until this latest wordpress update – dont understand why it had to change. Its ony an info site – doesn’t attract blogs or comments etc. Bloomin annoying – wish I could just revert back.. If I could access the wp admin page id be ok. but thanks for what youve done anyway. Cx

Your not in the dark yet ?? We are here to help you but please remember that our help can only get you so far and that is where you come in.

You will require FTP access to your files. This is a MUST. Refer to your host on how to do use FTP. FTP can allow you to delete, create and so on….

I would like to add that if you installed WordPress using Fantastico, you should be able to uninstall and reinstall WP that way was well.

    Thread Starter beaconoflightenfield

    (@beaconoflightenfieldmailcouk)

I think I did use Fantastico – and im quite sure I can access the FPT files – but just need to know where to find them first.

You should refer to your hosts documentation to find any information you need to know. I can tell you that you are looking for a directory that have files named wp-config.php, wp-login.php and such.

Try to uninstall using Fantastico fist and hopefully it will work that way. Them reinstall WP. Once your WP is reinstalled, install updraft and then restore your backup.

I cant tell if I used fantastico – but I have found the FPT folder – which shows me this: –

Special FTP Accounts are FTP accounts that are linked to aspects of your hosting account. Your main account is tied to the main login for your hosting account, logs accounts allow access to raw usage logs, and anonymous accounts allow anonymous access to your files. Special FTP Accounts have special restrictions and cannot be deleted.
