After WP 4.4, Contact Form 7 intermittently gives submission error

  • I recently updated our copy of WordPress to v4.4.
    I also have Contact Form 7 v4.3.1 installed.

    Right after I made this update, only a few of my users get the red boxed error message “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method”

    I have added Contact Form DB. This successfully captures all submissions now so even if the form errors.

    Given the error message is intermittent, the database is updated on submit … where and what could be causing the error?
