I look at the AIOSEO score and I am always dinged for Meta Data.

When I look at the page that has all the stats the Meta Description box reports excerpt, but my entire page is pulled. Because of this issue it pulls my score down by AIOSEO. I tweak the meta description every time I have a new post to fit the 160 characters. I am getting a little tired of this. If this does not matter, why do you have it in the AIO SEO scoring? Maybe eliminate it from the scoring. I have been wasting my time on this.

    Hi @nancydru2021,

    Thanks for reaching out.

We still display a character count error if it exceeds 160 characters so that users can remove the default smart tags and write a custom meta description instead.

We highly recommend writing a custom meta description for your page that gives the reader a quick insight as to what the post is about instead of using any smart tags because Google prefers organic data and this increases the chance of your meta description showing up in Google search results.

Here are the quality guidelines from Google on this –

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks!

We haven’t heard back from you in a couple of days. I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now. But if you’d like us to assist, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.

    Thanks!
