• Akismet has been letting record amounts of spam through the past several weeks. Is there any way to improve this in the short term while we wait for a new version?

Please advise. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  • If I understand how Akismet works, a new version wouldn’t do anything for stopping spam.

I believe it checks your comments against a list hosted elsewhere, the plugin interfaces between your site and akismet servers.

In the meantime, try adding this plugin if you are interested:

That one stops the auto spam bots before they even get to post comments. Its been helpful for me

Thank you. Installed. Will report back if that doesn’t cure it. ??

Is there settings in that plugin to change? I’m still getting spam comments?

Other ideas? If I don’t get a solution, I will have to turn off comments all together. ??

dsquared, it looks like most of the comments you’re reporting as missed spam were actually caught by Akismet. Something is causing the Akismet result to be ignored.

There should be a History link below each comment. If you click on that for some of the missed spam, it might give a clue. Pop over to https://akismet.com/contact/ to send us the details and we’ll try to get to the bottom of it. It might help if you can send a list of the plugins you have installed.
