• Hi,
I’m having some challenges with Akismet. It seems that it is allergic to my own blog! LOL!

The last three times that Akismet showed that it had blocked spam I’ve been miffed at what is showing up in the Akismet spam folder. Just now it happened again. I had just published a new post and then I noticed Akismet was showing I had received some new spam. When I open up the Akismet tab it is actually showing a snippet from my own blog to the post I just published!

What in the heck is going on? I’m baffled at this one and conducting a search in this forum I didn’t come up with anything.

Could someone please help! Thank you!

  • Did your post contain a link to an earlier post on your blog? If it did, then it will have sent a pingback to the earlier post, which would show up as a comment.

I don’t know why Aksimet would object to that, but then I don’t use it. (Bad Behaviour and Spam Karma 2 do the job for me)

    Hi,
Yes, my post did contain a link from one of my earlier posts. So that’s why? That is strange, but now that you mention that I recall that the other times it has happened was for the same reason; the post containing a link to one of my earlier posts.

I wonder if Askimet has an update that may perhaps fix the bug. Thanks Les for your response!

    It’s not a “bug”.

When you link to another blog, even your own, WordPress does a pingback. WordPress receives the pingback, sends it to Akismet, and Akismet, for whatever reason, judged it to be spam.

Now, Akismet is not perfect and never claimed to be, so if it’s not spam, then mark it as not spam and it’ll show up on your blog as it should have in the first place. This will also tell Akismet that it was wrong and thus improve the algorithim.

Which version of Akismet are you running?

The latest version of the plug-in is Akismet 1.2.1. It can be found here: https://akismet.com/download/

    Hi,
That is the version I have of Askismet, and I’m running WordPress 2.05
