• I’ve been using Akismet along with WP-reCaptcha for a while now and it has effectively blocked spam.
Recently however I’ve started getting emails asking me to moderate a comment that’s clearly spam (full of links to dodgy stuff).
I go into the comments area to mark them as spam but they are not in the ‘Pending’ area – I notice that Akismet has put these ones into the Trash instead. It is still putting most of them straight into the Spam area as usual, there just seem to be some getting treated differently – it’s a bit annoying as I keep getting these moderation emails.

I’ve also noticed I sometimes see this message in the comments area: “Akismet has detected a problem. Some comments have not yet been checked for spam by Akismet. They have been temporarily held for moderation. Please check your Akismet configuration and contact your web host if problems persist.”

Though when I click to check my Akismet configuration, everything looks OK – my key is valid, the servers are all available and the network status area shows all accessible.

I’m using the most recent version of Akismet (2.5.7) and WP-reCaptcha (3.1.6) and just upgraded to WP 3.5 (though the WP upgraded doesn’t seem to have affected the Akismet problem). This started happening about 2-3 months ago I think, and it’s getting worse.

Help would be appreciated – my inbox is starting to look scary!
