Alante Pro Slider Background Color

I have Alante Pro 1.9.16. From the Theme Options for Homepage, I have a ThinkUpSlider Homepage Slider. I want to change the colors of the text and the background. It currently defaults to white text and a black background for each slide, but I want to change it to black text and a white background. Anytime I change the background color using custom CSS, the image on the slide is no longer visible. I’m also having no luck changing the color of the border around the featured link. Thank you!
