• Here’s an odd one. When displaying albums on a page, the “show as slideshow” option always displays a page with a “no images were found” message.
If I use a gallery type on a page the “show as slideshow” works fine. Also if I choose to display a “Gallery” on a page I have the option to disable the “show as slideshow” link in the “customize the display settings” tab. No such option exists when displaying an album. Anyone else having this problem or know how to disable the “show as slideshow” option for albums?

Under the “customize the display settings” the only option that works is “NexGen basic thumbnails” when displaying albums.

    site address is https://www.mainstreetwinecompany.com

    Thanks.

  • There has never been an option to show the album as a slide show and there is not now. In fact, even in your album page doesn’t exist.

Did you actually click the album. Because when I click it, it goes to a page that shows “show as slideshow” at the top of the gallery.

Also tizz, if you go to the Gallery settings in WP there are a number of options to display both Compact Albums and Extended albums. Basic Slideshow is second on both of them.

not sure where they cam from but it’s not even on my page now.

The page I’ve linked it’s your album page, you have compact album and it shows right.
Look at your gallery pages because you have duplicate.
Basic slideshow is an option by itself

Not sure how it’s working for you. Can you do me a favor, click on the grand opening album, then when it goes to that page try to click “show as slideshow”. In all honestly I don’t even want a slideshow, I don’t want that link to even show up, that’s the main problem.

Grand Opening isn’t an album it’s a gallery

Obviously there is some confusion here. Grand opening is the name I gave to both the Album and the gallery. Is that what is causing the problem?

    @tizz
Under “Gallery Settings” >>> “NextGEN Basic Compact Album” you can chose NextGEN Basic Slideshow, NextGEN Basic Tag Clloud and so on. Why? That is illogical !

OK, so looks like I figured that one out. The plug doesn’t like albums and galleries to be named the same. Changed to a different album name and it’s working. Is there some sort of comprehensive user manual as opposed to the support doc on the plug site. Cuz, quite honestly that info is horrible.

There’s no reason why an album has to have the same name as a gallery or vice versa.
You’ve made some confusion about what album and galleries are, they are two different things.
I will try to explain it to you soon as I’m on a PC because now I’m on the mobile and not too much comfortable to write

I don’t think I’m confused about the difference between albums and galleries. A gallery is a collection of images. An album is a collection of galleries, or even additional albums. I know I didn’t have to name them the same but it was logical for my purposes. I wanted to be able to display multiple collections of images on one page. I did not want all the images shown on the initial page, therefore I chose to put galleries in an Album which is exactly what the album is for. I named the galleries first then named the album the same thing. That’s where the problem was. The plugin creates the directories based on the name. Seems like it would be a good idea to have some sort of default prefix attached to the gallery directory and/or the album directory so there’s no confusion. Thanks for the help.

Maybe now you begin to understand the difference, but yesterday you called album what’s actually a gallery, and your album page has always been right without the slideshow link that you said was there. That link was/is only in the gallery pages because you have selected so, that’s OK.
The problem was in the gallery because you had created a double path, and then the second was obviously not found.
The album URL should be: yoursite/gallery, and here you are, and the galleries URL should be: yoursite/gallery/name of the gallery.
“gallery” is the album page that contains all of your displayed galleries, showing only one choosen image by gallery as a cover, “name of the gallery” is a child of that page/album, is a gallery, displayed in another page, the gallery page, with all images of that gallery.
    So you have an Album:
A page called “Gallery” like you have or different, with [album id=1 template=compact] e.g., and this is the page base, the parent.
The album in admin doesn’t need no name, it has the id that you call up in the shortcode. In the settings “manage album” you’ve selected album id 1 and you’ve inserted the two galleries.
    Galleries:
You have a page for each gallery with its relative shortcode, and in the drop down menu on the right you have to select the page “Gallery” (the album) as a parent.
In the settings “manage galleries” open a gallery, e.g. “Grand opening”, and you should have the title, then next right “link to the page” (I don’t know if it’s written just like that, I use another language), there you select the page you created for that gallery, that’s “grand opening”.
Below, in the “create a new page”, you will have “main page”. The path should be wp-content/gallery/name of the gallery. Same thing for “our place”.
/gallery/nggallery/mswc/our-place/ could be a friendlier and clearer URL: /gallery/our-place, because /mswc/ doesn’t mean anything and nggallery is useless.
/gallery/nggallery/opening/grand-opening/ will become /gallery/grand-opening/ (opening means nothing if you have grand opening, and if you have another opening event you call it with its name).

therefore I chose to put galleries in an Album which is exactly what the album is for

It’s like saying: I have a thing labeled “thing” so I want to put it in a box called “thing”, so I’ll write thing/thing over the box label.

Again our language differences have caused some confusion. I never said my album page had the Show as Slideshow link. I said when you click the album it went to the page that showed that link. Perhaps in the future someone with a better grasp of English could help the native English speaking crowd. The language barrier just adds more confusion between us. Thanks for the attempt tho.
