That’s the question here. Biggest update alert I’ve ever seen…
Any explanation why there is a replacement plugin? This one is functioning perfect – when you check the tickets and ratings of the replacement… I think it’s not ready for production:
And it’s not an easy upgrade, you have to set up all again and this causes trouble at the moment:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/replacing-a-perfectly-working-plug-in-with-crap/@tobo Ops! Here I read that the current plugin is going to disappear soon and will be replaced by “PayPal Payments” plugin
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/paypal-standard-woocommerce-subscription/#post-14584537
I have not upgraded because a Paypal Business account is also required.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I’ll keep waiting for more info.Hi there,
Apologies for any confusion this may have caused. As @jrmora notes, we’re going to be phasing out WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Payment Gateway soon and replacing it with the free PayPal Payments plugin: https://woocommerce.com/products/woocommerce-paypal-payments/
You’ll find the product documentation here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/
You will need a PayPal Business account, or you can convert an existing Personal account to a Business account in order to use the extension.
I hope this information is helpful to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have further questions!
Hi @kvvsi
A little more clearer information would be nice:
What is going to happen to the “WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway” plugin?
Is the plugin going to disappear?
Will it just stop being updated?
Will it change developers?
When will it happen (whatever)? It would be fair for people who don’t want to change their personal Paypal account from Personal to Business and want to explore possible alternatives.
Tnx
Hi there,
I understand your point and how that can be relevant!
What is going to happen to the “WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway” plugin? Is the plugin going to disappear? Will it just stop being updated? When will it happen (whatever)?
In the long term, it would stop being updated and we would no longer bring new features for the plugin.
We understand how it can be more complex for some of our users, so we surely won’t stop supporting/updating the plugin immediately.
Still, we don’t have a specific date yet and the recommendation is for changing to the new PayPal Payments plugin as soon as possible.
Will it change developers?
The team behind the development of the new plugin is still the same.
We had a lot of different PayPal plugins with different goals, so having only one PayPal plugin was the path that we decided in order to provide the best experience for our users in the long term. That will make things easier and provide a completely improved experience.
Feel free to get back to us anytime if you need further help. ??
Hi, @felipea8c
Thank you very much for your reply.
This information would be helpful in the upgrade notice in the WordPress admin (and on the plugin page) to avoid possible problems and above all doubts about upgrading or not.
I will start the upgrade process when I finish the change from Paypal Personal to Business account hoping that everything goes well finally.
One last question:
Does the update deactivate/delete or overwrite the current plugin or its data?Best regards.
Hi @jrmora –
Thanks for the feedback, and we appreciate your understanding.
> Does the update deactivate/delete or overwrite the current plugin or its data?
PayPal Payments will not deactivate or delete/overwrite the current plugin or its data. It is an entirely new plugin that will remain separate.
Cheers!
Hey @jrmora,
Just to let you know, we now have a handy guide explaining how to switch to PayPal Payments that I think you will find helpful. You can find the guide here: PayPal Payments Upgrade Guide
Best,
NiallHello @wpniall
Thanks for the guide.
Last night I did the update to PayPal Buss. and also the plugin and everything seems to work as it should.
Now I just need to fix small details of design and translation, but as for the operation of the purchase process I think it’s going well. I will test it in depth today.
Once again, thanks- This reply was modified 3 years, 5 months ago by jrmora.
