I’ve tried installing the plugin, but I can’t seem to get past a javascript error:

    Error: akst_share is not defined
    Source File: javascript:void(akst_share(’22’));
    Line: 1

Prototype is where it should be…however, I don’t think the plugin is injecting the proper head statements to make the plugin work.

  • Nevermind. I upgraded to version 2.0.5 and the wp_die() error I was getting is now fixed and no longer a problem.

I installed Share-This and it doesn’t pop-up at all for me. It redirects to a new page. Why doesn’t the pop-up function work? I really liked that feature.

    Did you read the README?

    https://alexking.org/projects/wordpress/readme?project=share-this

I’d pay particular attention to the section titled:

“How come I go to a new page to Share This instead of getting the little pop-up?

    or

How come the little popup doesn’t show?”

Yes, I did read the README and I tried the suggestions. It still doesn’t pop-up.

I can assure you, when properly installed it does indeed show the pop-up window.

This is a great plug-in, Alex. It is ideal for me. And, I’ve put my $ where my mouth is by sending a donation. However, it doesn’t seem to work with the theme I’m using. I get neither the little popup or sent to another page. Nothing happens in Firefox, Safari or IE 7. I checked and it does work fine with the default theme.

    Here’s my blog: https://dsquared22.com/blog/
    Here’s the theme: https://wpthemepark.com/themes/fallseason/

Can you give me any suggestions to try to figure out how to get your plug-in working with the theme I’m using? Thanks so much.

There are troubleshooting steps for this in the README:

    https://alexking.org/projects/wordpress/readme?project=share-this

    In the FAQ section titled:

“How come I go to a new page to Share This instead of getting the little pop-up?

    or

How come the little popup doesn’t show?”

If you’d like to have me configure it on your server for you, I’d be happy to do so as a mini consulting gig.

Alex – not sure you read my post carefully enough. Your plug-in is configured properly since it works fine with the default theme. I have carefully read your FAQ, believe me.

Out of curiosity, what would the mini gig cost me? You can contact me via my contact page on my blog – link above.

I’m having a problem with the latest version of Share-This (Version 1.3.1, 2006-12-15) and WordPrss 2.0.5: the “Close” button doesn’t work when the little JavaScript window opens. The only way to close the window is to click the “Share this” icon. You can see it in action on my site at https://www.quintusphoto.com

I’m using this with the plugin “Gregarious” (version 1.5.2).

I know someone else using using WordPress 2.0.5 and a different theme and she’s having the same issue with the Share-This plugin.

Any help would be much appreciated – great plugin!!

    -Michael

dsquared22 – I read your post, that’s why I pointed to the debugging steps in the README. My consulting rates are here:

    https://kingdesign.net/development/

Likely this would be a 30 minute-1 hour job.

getzinger – Sorry, don’t know what to tell you. I’d have to debug it on your site to see what is happening. My guess is some sort of theme or plugin issue.

Alex – thanks, but it won’t be necessary. the faq yielded no helpful info for this situation. there was nothing wrong with my set up of your plug-in. the problem was in the fallseason theme. i jsut had to reposition line <?php wp_footer(); ?> in the footer.php. now, all is working fine

the faq yielded no helpful info for this situation.

Really? I would have thought that this:

    “Known Issues

If your theme does not include a wp_footer() call, you will need to add the akst_share_form template tag to your footer manually:

    <?php akst_share_form(); ?>

or add the <?php wp_footer(); ?> tag to your theme footer.”

    would have addressed that directly.

In addition, it is called out again in the:

“How come I go to a new page to Share This instead of getting the little pop-up?

    or

How come the little popup doesn’t show?”

    section:

“you may need to make sure the form is being added properly (see notes on wp_footer in this document).”

Thanks Alex – Actually I changed my theme and the “Close” button is now working!

However, this issue of the Close button not working is present with many themes that I tested (all were Widgetized and WordPress 2.0+ themes, found on “themes.wordpress.net”). I was sure to upload the included “prototype.js”, so was using the version included with the plugin during my testing.

Too add further confusion: I know someone who switched to the very same theme I’m using, but for her she is still having the issue with the Close button. Hmmm…

So, this problem is solved for me, but you might want to keep an eye out for similar reports.

    Thanks,

    -M

I have this plugin installed and everything is working with the social bookmarking sites, however, I can’t get the “E-mail” functionality to work. It just doesn’t deliver to my inbox or other inboxes. I checked in the spam box and enabled emails from the domain (sending from the site https://www.nostatus.com). I turned off all plugins and used the default theme but no luck for me ??

Maybe because I am back home in the UK and still running on Canadian time and I am missing something.

If anyone can help that would be great, cheers ??

PS. Latest plugin version and upgraded to latest WP version.

I’m still having the same problem even after updating to Version 1.4 Share-This. I also updated from WordPress 2.0.5 to 2.0.6, but it’s still the same issue: the “Close” button doesn’t work when the little JavaScript window opens.

The only way to close the window is to click the “Share this” icon itself. You can see this weird problem in action on my personal site https://www.quintusphoto.com

Is anyone else having this problem?

I was also sure to copy “prototype.js” to my “wp-includes/js/” directory.

I’m using this with the plugin “Gregarious” (version 1.5.2).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks…

    -Michael
