    Hi,

We’re using Google Site Kit to add Google Analytics tracking code. I’ve noticed that all AMP visits are now tracking with a Page Title of (not set). Non-AMP visits seem to be tracking fine.

If I disable Yoast then GA does start showing an actual Page Title rather than (not set). Any ideas?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,

We can see that Yoast on that URL is outputting the right title for the page. See image: https://ibb.co/KsQm0GV.

We are not sure why Google is reporting differently on this AMP pages when it reports correctly on the non-AMP version and Yoast is outputting the right title. Indeed, even Google’s own AMP Tester tool and Rich Snippet preview feature is able to find the title here.

    We suggest the following actions:

    1. Make sure your AMP Analytics are correctly configured on the site. If you are not sure, you may need to speak to the plugin authors who are responsible for generating the AMP Analytics code. You may also need to double check that your Google Analytics is set-up correctly.

    2. We see you are using caching. Does clearing your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser resolve the issue? If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/

    3. If the analytics is configured correctly and clearing the cache does not fix the issue. We suggest contacting Google Analytics as Yoast is outputting the right title and Google’s own testing tools can find it. You can contact Google Analytics by making a post on their forums here: https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/Google-Analytics/ct-p/Google_Analytics.

    Hi @pcosta88

Many thanks for the reply and trying to help.

Just to confirm a few things…

    1. We are using the official AMP plugin and Google’s official Site Kit plugin to implement AMP and add the GA code. I posted about the issue on the Site Kit support forum last week and they said that our implementation looks correct.

    2. I’ve cleared all cache from everywhere (a few times over the last week) and the issue persists.

    3. Of course, I can try this, but I’m sure they will say that it’s an issue with one or more of the plugins (Yoast, Site Kite, AMP).

But, with only those 3 plugins active (with Twenty Twenty-One theme) the problem persists.

With only 2 plugins active (Site Kit, AMP) the issue is resolved, except with the original (ie non-Yoast) page title reported in GA, obviously, instead of the Yoast SEO title.

    Hi,

Thanks for the follow-up with that information. Unfortunately, we are unable to reproduce the issue and what further compounds it is that Google’s on testing tools are able to find the right title. So there is something about the Google Analytics code such as its location or how it is built that is causing an issue.

As Yoast is outputting the right title and Google’s Search Engine is able to find it our ability to support this issue is limited. What we can say is to

    1. AMP has an open issue related to Google Tags here https://github.com/ampproject/amphtml/issues/30176. We are not sure if that matches but try removing the Google Tag part of the Analytics Code and see if the issue resolves.

    2. Are you able to move the code up to say the middle part of the page or the top part? Do the results change?

    3. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    4. We had another recent release. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO, v15.7? If you update, does the issue resolve? We ask as new versions of Yoast contain some AMP specific functionality.

    5. If you deactivate SiteKit and move that analytics code into some other plugin does the issue resolve? For example, if you go to AMP-Settings there is an analytics spot there to enter in the AMP specific analytics. If you move it there does the issue resolve?

NOTE: AMP pages require a different set of analytics then what is found on regular pages. We checked the topic here https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/amp-visits-in-ga/ and it is not clear to us if the specific AMP analytics are in use. Can you confirm? This guide explains more: https://amp-wp.org/documentation/getting-started/analytics/.

If the code is correct and implemented correctly for AMP and the code is just firing the Google Analytics code and nothing else AND everything else is updated and moving the code around still all fails to resolve it, ie you deactivate Yoast SEO and issue is resolved.

Based on the information you provided, we expect this to be an issue. We’re actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository so your best next step would be to create a new issue for our developers at https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new. You will need an account to create a new issue. If this is your first bug report, please check out: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/.

    Hi,

Thanks for all of that. I can confirm that all plugins and WP are at the latest version. Site Kite updated yesterday and it’s still a problem on the latest version. I also tried clearing all cache from the WP Fastest Cache plugin and Cloudflare – and it didn’t help.

I’ll try a couple of your other suggestions to see if I can find a workaround…

    Thanks again!

We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.

I’d just like to point out this happens to me as well and has been that way for a long while. I’m using the Twenty Seventeen theme, so it may not be theme-specific.
