I have been using the free version of Customizr, and used it to build a nice site to replace a friends’ old website. I built it on my own domain (where it worked perfectly), then as my friend has their site hosted on GoDaddy as a managed WordPress account, I used the migration process GoDaddy provides. Everything did transfer very well, and I was set to use Appearance >> Customize to configure the site exactly as it’s configured on my own domain.

To begin with, though Customizr did work very well from the beginning on my own domain, there was the issue of difficulty removing the demo slider, even when using the instructions provided by Press Customizr. Eventually, I was able to remove it.

Now fast forward to the new site. I can remove the slider, but only temporarily. The slider goes away, and I save the new settings. Then as soon as I attempt to change any other settings, the slider automatically reappears. This happens over and over and over again.

Not only that, but every single setting that I change in Customize does exactly the same thing. I wait for the desired changes to take place, save the settings, etc. I can even sign out of WordPress, and viewing the changes, the new settings are still in place, and the demo slider is back. Even the header logo disappears after having been successfully installed.

I’ve refreshed my browser cache over and over again, try different browsers, etc. I don’t use a cache plugin. I once did, but that was on my old domain – it caused problems, so I uninstalled it and problems disappeared. I did not reinstall the cache plugin on the new site.

I am using a Customizr child theme. I have not yet taken the step of disabling all plugins, but do plan to try that out today ( as I have time away from holiday preparations).

One thing I should mention is that all of the plugins which are active on this new site are also present and active on the old site, without any problems there at all.

I am using the latest versions of both WordPress and Customizr. If I continue to have good experiences building sites with Customizr, I’m likely to get Customizr Pro… but not yet, simply because I’m a web development student on a student’s budget, which I’m sure some will understand…

In the meantime, I’m posting some information I was requested to provide. (I can provide change log information also if that would be helpful) Here it is:

  • Hi,

I am continuing from what you posted in the review section.

    You mentioned the following.

I did already have the latest version of both WordPress and Customizr (free version)

Ok, so we are using the same theme version and WordPress version. The only difference we have now are plugins and Web hosting setup.

I took all the steps you mentioned, including disabling all of my plugins. It has not fixed the problem.

Now, we have same theme version, same WordPress version, and without any plugins. The only difference between yours and mine is Web Hosting setup.

Now that all plugins are disabled, another strange thing has happened: the setting where I was supposed to be able to disable the demo slider, has now disappeared.

Yes, this is strange and I have no explanation for this. The theme setting is within theme and nothing to do with plugin. Disable plugin should not have made a theme setting disappear.

The only difference now between yours and mine is web hosting setup, maybe something you did on your web hosting caused this strange issue.,, let’s continue…

“Warning! No socket configured. This object cache will not work without a defined REDIS_SOCKET”

You mentioned that your problem website is hosted on GoDaddy. This error message is related to caching on GoDaddy managed hosting. I can only find the following related forum post.
    https://www.godaddy.com/community/Managing-WordPress/REDIS-SOCKET/td-p/19702

You may want to contact GoDaddy about this.

I’ve refreshed my browser cache over and over again, try different browsers, etc. I don’t use a cache plugin. I once did, but that was on my old domain – it caused problems, so I uninstalled it and problems disappeared. I did not reinstall the cache plugin on the new site.

GoDaddy WordPress managed hosting has cache installed. In fact they do not recommend you installing any cache plugin yourself.

Please see this article on where to clear your cache.
    https://www.godaddy.com/help/clear-your-cache-12444

There is also a message in the above mentioned help page that says…

If you do not see Flush Cache, you might have deleted the plugin it uses. Please contact customer support.

Therefore, if you have deleted any pre-installed cache plugin, please contact GoDaddy customer support to get it installed back properly.

Removing a cache plugin is not easy. You will also need to remove any files left over in your hosting server and for some plugin, you need to edit your .htaccess file to remove commands.

Conclusion. Based on the following points.

    1) Remember this error that you encounter, which is related to caching.

“Warning! No socket configured. This object cache will not work without a defined REDIS_SOCKET”

    2) You have appearing and disappear features, which suggest it’s a cache issue.

    3) I think you are not aware that your GoDaddy WordPress managed hosting has cache.

    4) In the troubleshooting process, we have eliminated theme, WordPress and plugins, The only difference now between yours and mine is web hosting setup.

I can only conclude that your issue is related to your Web Hosting caching.

Please contact your web hosting’s technical support ( not customer service ) to check and fix your caching issue.

You should also check with them whether there is any other type of caching in the hosting control panel that you need to know about.

    Hope these information helps.

    Thank you

    Hello Nicolas,

Sorry I got sidetracked with other things and didn’t get back to you on this.

The fix may not be what some would expect, but I was able to fix it. I simply did a search with the original error message, and found one result where they were talking about that exact error message…

What they said fixed it for them was to install the plugin called Redis Object Cache, then deactivating it, and finally activating it again…

I was a bit leery, as I tend to stay away from cache plugins. But as all else (including suggestions here) had failed, I gave it a go… and had immediate success.

Everything has been perfect ever since, and I’ve got the site complete for my customer, and am happily tweaking with CSS to my heart’s content.

You’ve got a really good theme here. As I mentioned before, I’m a student without a lot of money… but when my situation changes, I plan to purchase the (unlimited) Pro version.

I’m sure in time I’ll discover other themes I like, but I’ve got to say, your theme is very aptly named.
