• Hello again.

It was brought to my attention by several readers that they cannot comment on my posts. They are all being blocked as potential bots. I am using the Sela theme.

Any idea how to fix this issue?

WordPress itself doesn’t do that, so this may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Seventeen theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

I installed Health Check and I am in troubleshooting mode. I don’t understand how to check if commenting is fixed like this because I was always able to comment. I’m so confused.

Oh, you have no trouble commenting? That does make it hard to test, sorry!

Are you running any security or anti-spam plugins?

The only plug-ins I currently have running are Bluehost, Health Check, Jetpack, OptinMonster API, and Yoast SEO.

Ok, at Jetpack > Settings > Discussion in your site’s Dashboard, switch off “Let readers use WordPress.com, Twitter, Facebook, or Google+ accounts to comment” and see if folks continue to have trouble.

That was originally turned off and I turned it on to see if it would make a difference, but I don’t know how to check it because I’m the admin. I logged out and used one of my junk e-mails to do it and it went through fine, but others have told me they get blocked.

If you can track down one of those others, I recommend coordinating and seeing if they have any trouble while you have all plugins deactivated.

Then, just re-activate each plugin individually until you find the one causing the problem.
