• My WordPress website in the edit mode has suddenly changed all headings, font sizes, line breaks, paragraphs and other formatting in my texts on pages and blogposts. On the live website this does not have any affect, but I cannot edit my pages and posts if I cannot rely on my choices regarding formatting are being saved backend.

    This is my website:

I have checked and all my plugins are updated. The only thing I have not updated yet is my version of WordPress. I am running 6.5.5 and I am able to update to 6.6.1. It does not look as if all my plugins are compatible with the latest WordPress version. That is why I have waited.

Can you help me – what is causing this problem – and how can I fix it? I really do not hope I have to correct all formatting manually. And how to avoid this from happening again. I am not a tech expert so I am not sure what to look for.

    Regards

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional features under the menu item under Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.
There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.www.ads-software.com/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/

I tried running the website in troubleshooting mode and it seems it is the theme that is causing the problem.

When I switch from the theme called Twenty Twenty-two and back to my current theme Hestia in troubleshooting mode, all text formatting backend on all my pages – including a new one I created before enabling troubleshooting mode – is messed up.

However, the new test page – and all other pages – look fine in the live version of my website.

I do not know how to fix this. I really do not hope that I have to switch to another theme – I have tried this once before and it was a lot of extra editing work.

Do you have any suggestions on what to do?

I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/hestia/#new-post so its developers and support community can help you with this.
