Updated All In One WP Security to new Version 5.5.2 – and was already using the Rename Login option.

After the update, could no longer login to WP Admin (either at the rename URL nor the wp-admin URL)

Recovering from that is not fun.

    Hi @mitpub

If you access the renamed login page ? what it does do it shows 404 not found page or 403 forbidden error? or any other error in error_log ?

There is not any major change regarding rename login page functionality in AIOS 5.2.2 so it should be some thing else issue.

Rename the plugins folder “all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall” to “all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall-deactivated” at location /wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall It will deactivate the plugin and will allow to access using wp-login.php as temporary solution.

I think it showed 404 not found.

Yes, renaming the plug-in folder allows login at the normal URL, but the previous (working) version of the plugin must then be restored from some backup to recover full functionality that was broken.

Inexplicably, when I made a backup of the older, working plugin and then updated the plugin again, it didn’t break, and I am now using Version 5.2.2 successfully.

I did not enjoy all the user interface / arrangement changes with the new version, however, and had to spend extra time checking/fixing all our settings after choosing Configure Manually, because I was unsure of the effects of Reactivate.

    Hi @mitpub

Glad to know finally you are using 5.2.2 and rename login page works.

    Regards

I have the same problem. Unfortunately, I don’t have a backup of the previous version of the plugin. Can you please make it available?

    Edit:

I was also able to fix the error – without an old version. I renamed the plugin folder, logged in and rewrote the permalink structure. I then renamed the folder again and activated the plugin. The login then worked.

For what it’s worth, I use a Custom Structure for permalinks, so maybe there’s an AIOWPS bug associated with non-default permalink structures?

    Hi @mitpub

Ok, Thanks for the information, I will cross check custom structure of permalink is making the issue.

    Hi everyone,
I have a similar problem of still having the wp-login.php page available with a custom/renamed one being set. wp-admin is getting the usual unavailable message and the custom/renamed page works well though.
I also have a custom permalink structure which I would like to maintain.

At the moment I manually renammed wp-login.php which obviously throws a 404 now. but I’d like a longer term solution.

I would appreciate any input or help on this
    Kind regards ??

    Hi @sndlrd

Do you have any other pluign related to login page installed ?

Hope wp-login.php is not comming form chache.

I will create internal ticket to check this issue in more details.

If you can again back wp-login.php and share the site url using https://pastebin.com/ ( burn after read option ) It might help.

    Regards

Hi hjogiupdraftplus, thanks a lot for your help.
    here it is :
https://pastebin.com/3me7ap6C (wp-login is back to its original name)

I have no other plugin that would interfere that I would think of.
Also, I can reproduce this with 2 other websites, one with custom permalink, the other with “name of post” permalink. So not sure if it’s related.

    Kind regards

    Hi @sndlrd,

    Hope you have wp-login.php renamed.

I can see the site login page is accessible using wp-login not wp-login.php

It should be another plugin or hosting must use plugin functionality that might be making?wp-login?to access the login page. AIOS disables access to login page?wp-login.php?of WordPress.

You can deactivate the AIOS plugin and cross check that wp-login url will still be working. Belo screens shot of my local where AIOS rename login page on and wp-login shows 404 error.

hjogiupdraftplus thank you for your input.
Indeed wp-login is accessible and wp-login.php is not.

I’m trying to find which plugin could be interfering with this, without success so far.
It’s behaving like this on 3 different websites on 2 different Hosting services. The 3 websites share common plugins to some degree.

what do you mean with “Hope you have wp-login.php renamed.” ? are you advising me to rename it again to something else than it’s original name ?

    Hi @sndlrd

Your intial comment have below statement which means you renmaed wp-login.php manually but it is not required.

“At the moment I manually renammed wp-login.php”

Yes, there should be another plugin / theme functionality which loads wp-login url login page but it is not WordPress functionaity and AIOS rename login page wp-login.php

If your hosting provider do have “Admin login” from their control panel might be for that they use wp-login url using must use plugin.

Can you please share with me the theme and plugins ( + must use) list ?

    Regards

Hi hjogiupdraftplus, and thanks again for your input/help.
I actually don’t think there is something from my hosting. It’s a manually installed WP, nothing “managed by hosting”.

I tried, one by one, to deactivate quite a few plugins to see if behaviour changed, without success so far.

    Hi @sndlrd,

Thanks for the info that it is not managed hosting.

I will try to cross check if the theme and any other plugin have that wp-login loads the login page.

    Regards

    Thanks again hjogiupdraftplus !
I explored everything I was able to, so your current and future input are much appreciated.
    Regards
