  • Hi

The error message that comes up says
The requested URL /error.html was not found on this server.

That is not a WordPress file. It seems likely something in your .htaccess file is doing some error handling redirection that is interfering with how WordPress normally works.

Its unlikely this will resolve the problem but for starters, go to
Dashboard / Settings / Permalink and re-save your permalink settings. Doing so forces WordPress to recreate its redirection code. Sometimes that code has gotten messed up and re-saving it corrects the problem. It doesn’t seem that is the problem here but its worth doing it for eliminating that as a potential problem source.

If that doesn’t work, since the file that is attempting to be called is /error.html which is not a WordPress file, it would be worth filing a ticket with support at your hosting company, explaining what has started happening (include the example of a page that brings up this problem, such as https://shortstorykitchen.com/americangreetings). They might be willing to look into it for you. It sounds like a possible web hosting misconfiguration, which typically comes from an incorrect setting in the .htaccess file.

Thanks for your reply. My hosting company gave me the same answer you did, unfortunately it didn’t work. At this point, it looks like I’m going to have to repair them manually, one at a time. Not rocket science, but it works. Arrrgh!
