All links go back to my home page – no links stay in wp blog

I’ve just setup my blog, added a post, and an about us page.
But when I click any links either to see a post, archive, category or even the about me page – the link takes be back to my home page.
I’ve tried changing the permalinks to:
custom structure: %postname% – but that gives me an “error page not found” on the blog

Same for /blog/%postname/

I keep going back to my domains home page and as a result no one can read a past blog, archive, read the about this blog, section or click on a category.

I am new to this so what am I doing wrong.

Anyone please help.
