• Let me start with I am a newbie. Apologies in advance. Please have a look at bigshootout.com. You will see 4 posts in the body of the page. I want “Longhorns” link to find Longhorns post and no other; “Filmmakers” link to find Filmmakers post and no other, “Razorbacks” to find Razorbacks, and “Where were you in 1969” to be the home page, or the page that the browser defaults to. Each of these 4 pages will have their respective posts and no other. Have tried and searched until I am dizzy.

  • It looks like you have created “Longhorns”, “Filmmakers”, “Razorbacks”, and “Where Were You in 1969” as Posts, but that you really would prefer them to be Pages.

If so, you need to create a Page for each, move the content from each Post to its analogous Page, and then delete the Posts.

Thank you Chip. Will I then be able to allow comments on each of those pages?

Absolutely. Pages can have comments, just like Posts.

Thanks again, Chip. One last one, and I’ll stop stalking you. I now have have done what you said, it’s working great. Now, I want my site to default to “The Bigshootout Page”, like an index.html. Must that be a post?

No worries, and feel free to ask away!

You don’t need to make “The Big Shootout” into a Post in order to have it display on the front page. WordPress can very easily display a Static Page as your front page!

    1) Go to: Dashboard -> Settings -> Reading
    2) For the “Front Page Displays” setting, select the radio button for “A Static Page”
    3) Then, in the “Front Page” dropdown, select your “The Big Shootout” Page

If you also wish to display blog posts:

    1) Create a Page for your Blog posts. Call it “News”, or “Blog”, or whatever you want.
    2) Go to: Dashboard -> Settings -> Reading
    3) Under the “Front Page Displays” setting, in the “Posts Page” dropdown, select the Page that you created above

If you don’t want to display blog posts, just leave the “Posts Page” dropdown empty.

Then you should be all set!

Okay. So now, I want to allow each of my four pages to accept comments. First, there will be some static text, and a picture, then a space for folks to comment. How do I do that?

Are comments enabled for each Page?

Also, what Theme are you using? Can you verify that the following template tag appears in the “page.php” template file:

    <?php comments_template(); ?>

Each page does have comments enabled, but I don’t see that tag in “page.php”

BTW, I am using Theme 933.

I’m not familiar with that Theme. In any case, compare “page.php” to “single.php”. You should see the appropriate place to put the comments_template() tag, which will display comments and the comment form on your Pages.
