Hello. After doing a site audit, I found out that all my recipe posts have a duplicate meta description. I write a unique meta for each recipe, so that’s not the problem.

I also contacted my theme developer, and they assured me that the problem is not on their end since their demo pages in their demo website do not have a duplicate meta in the recipes, they told me to contact the SEO plugin.

Is there any way you could check what seems to be the problem?

    Hello @hungryinthailand

Thanks for reaching out about your meta description. I checked https://hungryinthailand.com/recipe/coke-chicken-wings/ and can confirm it has a duplicate meta description tag in the page source. The first output is from Yoast SEO, while the source of the other is unclear, but you can determine that by performing a conflict check.

The fastest way to rule out conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.

Hey, thank you for checking, I have decided to troubleshoot with the plugin you suggested.

While I’m troubleshooting, how can I check if there is a double meta tag at the current time I’m checking the page or not? I’m not so technical / I don’t have the money for yoast pro.

You can check the page source for the meta description tag. The tag is in this format: <meta name="description" content=""

Do let me know how it goes.

    Hey Maybellyne.

I am currently troubleshooting, but I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking for. I activated yoast SEO and DR (my recipes plugin, because else my recipes do not show up)

To me, the page inspects look the same because I have no idea what I’m looking at (haha).

Please take a look at both images and guide me in the right direction. I know that from here I have to activate each plugin one by one, but I don’t know what exactly I need to look at. To me, it seems like there is already a double meta in the page inspect of the troubleshooting page (not sure).

This is the screenshot while troubleshooting with just yoast and recipe plugin active: https://snipboard.io/PGH9Jo.jpg

Hope to hear from you soon, thanks!

    Hello @hungryinthailand

First, before starting the troubleshooting, confirm the issue and check for the meta description tag in the page source. You’d see <meta name="description" appears twice.

Next with the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin, you begin to turn OFF/ON each plugin while checking the page source for when the duplicate tag appears/disappears until you identify the plugin responsible for the second tag.

Thank you, I will try again tomorrow. In the image of my live site that I posted there is only one meta name = description, right? I will have to check with different recipes

The duplicate meta description tags appear for The Best Thai Basil Pork Belly and Coke Chicken Wings Recipe but not the homepage. So this might be specific to your recipe pages and the culprit might be the recipe plugin.

Hello. Sorry for taking a while to get back to you. I checked with the theme developers and basically they say that their theme demo website only has 1 meta description so the issue is not on their end.

    “Hi,

I have checked the theme on my localhost setup and found that only one meta description is displayed in the source code. Screenshot – https://prnt.sc/F_rF0X1ap0tR

I am not sure why the description is displayed multiple times. It is also possible that the issue is caused due to the SEO plugin that you have used. I would recommend you please check with the SEO plugin support team once as the issue should not be related to the theme.

    Kind regards,”

There is an option to turn off the theme meta description (which I did) but I still have the double meta issue. At least I think, would it be possible for you to check one of my recipes and see if the issue is resolved by now please? I think the issue is still there since I just got an email update from Ahref and it said I have double meta.
