  • Hi @jodydeane.,

Error Related to Missing or Damaged Core Files
Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.
Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Thanks
    Rajan V

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme automatically by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Hi @esmi,

I deleted everything except wp-content folder and wp-config.php and uploaded from a fresh wp download.

Didn’t work. Just gave me different errors related to plugins now.

    Renaming theme didn’t work.

What do you mean by resetting the plugins folder?

    Hi @jodydeane.,

I hope your wp-content file may corrupted. You have any backup?

    Thanks

I just made a back up before I did the above.

But same thing has happened to my other sites as well…

    (@jodydeane)

Also, I can’t even get into the admin to try a manual upgrade!

Try to fix one by one,

Now just update contact-form-7 plugin from live repo

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/contact-form-7/

What do you mean by resetting the plugins folder?

Please see the link I posted in my original answer.

I can’t even get into the admin to try a manual upgrade!

Again, please see my original answer. You need to run the upgrade manually by navigating to https://your_domain/wp-admin/upgrade.php in your web browser.

    (@jodydeane)

@rajanit2000 how do you mean ‘from live repo”?

    Thread Starter jodydeane

    (@jodydeane)

@esmi I cannot bring that upgrade page up. this bug affects the whole live site. Same error page loads for admin

@jodydeane it means current WordPress plugin repository

    Thread Starter jodydeane

    (@jodydeane)

@rajanit2000 is there a way to upgrade the plugin and keep the settings without having access to the admin area in WP?

    Thread Starter jodydeane

    (@jodydeane)

    @rajanit2000
    @esmi

I’ve deleted the contact form 7 plugin, saving the settings file to a folder.

And I uploaded the fresh file from the repo and unzipped it, but still getting this plugin error page.

Your settings not to be change when update both manually / automatically.

If any doubts get backup before update Its better way
